ME, US
Catalyst and cage rattler who's quit teaching to make it about learning.

Like most people, I began discovering sales and motivation techniques shortly after birth when I wanted to be fed. Without words, I was able to demonstrate to my parents a benefit to providing me with warm milk. As time passed, I of course learned to talk and began negotiating my way through life, developing an even greater understanding of a fundamental truth: Life is best when everybody wins! That understanding served me well as I worked in retail sales, national account management, sales and management training and organization development.

My career in consulting began in 1985 with the personal mission of developing individual and organization effectiveness. I developed a number of training programs and worked with organizations to implement systems, policies and procedures to support learning and allow employees to excel. I conducted one of my favorite management development classes  in a cemetery.

Currently I teach with the Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative, The Arthur Gary School of Real Estate and substitute at our local elementary school. As a featured keynote speaker I’ve addressed numerous companies, associations, civic and educational groups on subjects like choosing attitudes, starting your own business, leadership, and the motivation to learn.

Volunteer responsibilities include serving as a “bookworm” with second and third graders at the local elementary school.  I learn a lot from the stories they read to me and the conversations we have. I also serve as president of the Executive Committee for the Piscataquis County UMaine Extension Service and as a member of the National Grange Communications Advisory Board.

But all of this experience is only part of the formula that applies to what I do. We’ve all met people who brag, “I’ve got twenty years’ experience…” only to discover that what they actually have is one year of experience, repeated twenty times. I pride myself on a constantly fresh outlook and a deep love of learning—mine and my students’.
