Christine Sinclair
“It was her spirit, her courage, which ran through this team like an electric current and had everyone believing this was possible.” - The Province
Christine Sinclair captained the Canadian women's soccer team for the 2012 Olympics in a journey that energized our nation. Through a series of heartbreaks, challenges and a sense of redemption, Sinclair led us to the first Olympic podium placing for Canada in a Summer Games traditional team sport in over 70 years, and broke the goal scoring record.
Known for her indomitable spirit and will, Sinclair scored a hat trick during the semi-final game of the London 2012 Olympics to ensure Canada took the lead on three occasions, only to suffer from questionable referee calls and a resulting heartbreaking loss to the United States in extra time. After the unimaginable loss, the win of a bronze medal at the end of their series brought Canadians to their feet and Sinclair’s leadership earned her the role of Flag Bearer at the closing ceremonies.
Committing over a decade to playing with Canadian team, she’s played in three FIFA World Cups (2003, 2007, 2011), earned a gold meal at the 2011 Pan American Games and played in both the 2008 & 2012 Olympic Games. She’s earned a “Top-5 Player in the World” status for the last decade.
She’s the reigning and seven-time Soccer Canada Player of the Year and a five time nominee for FIFA World Player of the Year.
Originally from BC, while at University of Portland, Sinclair earned the “Academic All-American of the Year” by ESPN The Magazine, and was recognized as the collegiate “Woman Athlete of the Year.”
