Changing the way Canadians THINK about weight management.

As an MBA graduate with an extensive career in marketing strategy, a motivational key note speaker and workshop facilitator, Leah Young has a passion for identifying and disrupting human behaviours and habits that are just not working for us on a personal, societal or global level. Through a combination of her highly dynamic, energetic, presenting style and her entertaining, personal stories, she creates an experience that cultivates her audience's self-discovery and learning, while ensuring the process is enlightening, engaging and ever-lasting.

She founded her company Spirichi to offer instruction and ongoing support to individuals who are interested in enhancing their vitality and improving the overall quality of their life. Through speaking, teaching and writing, she provides opportunities for people to practice mindfulness tools and skills and actually re-shape how they think, so they achieve a greater sense of personal direction and leadership over their own lives.

Leah is particularly motivated by her own 30 year struggle with yo-yo dieting and is fueled by a passion to learn from and inspire others. Through a combination of a research study she undertook on the weight loss services industry and her first-hand experience with many different commercial diet programs, she arrived at the hard realization that typical diet programs do not effectively support people with the psychological and emotional triggers that lead to habitual overeating. Ultimately, through her unique blend of professional and personal expertise, she identified a tremendous opportunity to promote and deliver a revolutionary behavioural approach to effective weight management that is easier for people to sustain long-term.

As a Licensed Facilitator of Am I Hungry?® Workshops developed by Dr. Michelle May, Leah supports individuals, like herself, who struggle with over-eating and weight-loss, and are frustrated by the inefficacy of diets. She offers a powerful alternative that teaches skills that allow people to reconnect with their natural body instincts. Ultimately they learn how to spend less time and energy on over-eating and dieting, and more time enjoying a vibrant lifestyle.

During her time as a marketing communications leader, Leah played a leading role in several major corporate organizational change projects, so she understands the complex process of shifting an individual's entrenched mind-set and beliefs. She is also adept at cultivating the high trust and collaborative team environment that is critical to the success of any change process and she knows how to persuasively inspire more productive behaviours.

With an Honours B.A. in English and a Graduate Certificate in Public Relations, Leah possesses superior communication and listening skills. She has earned a membership with the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS) and is a highly energetic, compelling facilitator as well as an entertaining story-teller. The experience she creates in her presentations demonstrates her commitment to ensuring that this self-discovery and learning process is enlightening, entertaining and ever-lasting.

With a core guiding value of continuous learning, Leah views her roles as a facilitator and key note speaker as a wonderful opportunity not only to teach and inspire others, but also to gain the same back from her participants. This core value has also prompted her on to complete various other training programs beyond her formal education including her Fitness Instructor Certification and the Franklin Covey C4 Leadership Training.

Leah lives in a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Canada with her husband Wassim and her two boys Aaron and Cameron. Her interests include spicing up her daily fitness program with new activities, relaxation and meditation practise, making and enjoying great meals with family and friends, fantasy fiction novels and movies of all sorts.

Title: Change the way you THINK about weight management!

Description: While there are many diet and weight loss programs available to consumers, very few focus on sustainable lifestyle changes. Moreover, for most of us, very few diet programs actually work long-term. Diets are great at telling us what to eat, but they fail to give us the personal insight into why we are eating in the first place. The result, we spend billions on diets and yet 2/3rd of our population in Canada remains overweight and obese. Using the Am I Hungry?® Mindful Eating Cycle developed by Michelle May, MD , this interactive and insightful presentation pokes holes in diet industry methods while delivering a deceptively simple, common-sense alternative to weight management that offers more than just "eat-less and move more".

Title: Cultivate a change mind-set

Description: If you agree that leaders are made, not born, then one's ability to cultivate leadership qualities depends on how a person leverages their external and internal perceptions of the world through a conscious process of observing and experiencing, learning and questioning, reflecting and then taking action to initiate change. Its something that we can all learn to do. To illustrate why this is important and how it can work for you in your own life, this presentation takes you through why now, more than ever before, the world needs strong leaders; why human beings' inherent resistance to change and personal resource constraints keep us stuck in destructive behaviour patterns; and how cultivating a sense of in-charge leadership over the personal sphere of your life through greater self-awareness and small, doable actions, can lead to big change in the world.
