Michael Howell
Michael Howell has been involved with education for more than 30 years and with scholarships and student funding for nearly that long. He has specialist qualifications in Special Education and Guidance and is currently working as a vice-principal for the Simcoe County District School Board. In addition to his education qualifications, Michael has a degree in architecture. He recently completed advanced training in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) to assist in his work with the Simcoe County District School Board Vandalism Committee.
Howell is the author of the Winning Scholarships series published by University of Toronto Press. This series had a Western Canada, a Quebec and Atlantic Canada, and two Ontario editions. Michael has appeared on TVO, CBC radio and television, and his work has been featured in Maclean's and Readers Digest. He has had articles published in the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail. He has appeared on NBC DATELINE.
Howell has worked as a scholarship consultant for many school boards in Canada. He was hired by the federal government to do initial research that led to the establishment of the Canadian Millennium Scholarship Foundation. He has also served as a judge for the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation.
Howell has been a longstanding member of the Writer's Union of Canada. His books include: The Wealthy Barbarian, JUNKO,(a speed reading novel), Resistance is Fertile, and Whalefriend.
He was also a Medical Associate Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces serving with 14th Calgary Service Battalion, Medical Company.
