As an outcome of his own quest for self- actualisation, Stephen has in recent years become increasingly committed to the development of new models of education that equip students not only with workplace skills relevant to the 21st Century world, but also, and in particular, with the inner resources that are the key to truly empowered lives. This, in broad terms, is the vision of the recently created University of Expanded Awareness (Unexa), a centre of enlightened learning conceived by Stephen. Unexa’s mission is to be a powerful force for global change in education, personal development and economic empowerment, and thereby to effect wide-scale positive social reform. The organisation is dedicated to the service of humanity and is guided in all its actions and initiatives by the core (spiritual?) virtues of integrity, peace, humility, love, generosity, compassion and authenticity.

The ethos and intention of Unexa is beautifully exemplified in its current flagship offering, the Expanded Awareness Programme (EAP), which is well described as Stephen’s ‘heart-child’. A programme of social rescue and deep cultural transformation, it is the product of his strong desire to make others conscious of their own magnificence, to liberate them from self-limiting cycles of negative belief, and to unleash the ‘inner genius’ that he sees within each one. Although designed for all the world’s people, it is intended primarily for young people in highly disadvantaged communities, whose potential to effect major socio-economic change is of special interest to Stephen. The EAP is also tremendously effective in prisons, where it has been shown to deliver a profound rehabilitative impact.

In August 2012, in keeping with his commitment to the development of advanced new educational paradigms, Stephen will be attended a course of Consciousness-Based Education at MaharishiEuropeanResearchUniversity in The Netherlands. Delegates who complete this course are regarded as national experts in consciousness-based education programmes.
