Award winning Senior Meteorologist for CBC News Vancouver

Claire Martin is an award winning Senior Meteorologist for CBC News Vancouver at 5, 5:30 & 6 pm as well as CBC News Vancouver Late Night. She joined the Vancouver news team in the Fall of 2007 to help launch the new CBC News Vancouver Weather Centre West. Claire continues to deliver national forecasts and report on breaking weather stories for The National.

Claire has over 20 years of experience ranging from official weather observing to operational forecasting to television broadcasting. Before joining CBC she was the Chief Meteorologist for Global TV Edmonton. She also worked as a forecaster for Environment Canada and the UK Meteorological Office in England. Claire joined CBC Newsworld in 2005 with the launch of the new CBC Weather Centre. She provided national weather hits across the country and appeared regularly on The National and provided updates on local shows in Edmonton and Vancouver.

In 2005, Claire was awarded "Certified Broadcast Meteorologist" by the American Meteorological Society, the first of such certifications awarded in Canada. The International Weather Festival awarded Claire Martin the honour of "Best Weather Presenter in the World" in 2000 (Paris, France), 2001 (Quebec City, Canada) and 2003 (Zagreb, Croatia). The festival is produced annually by meteorologists and broadcast weather presenters from various nations and has been supported by the World Meteorological Organization.

Claire not only forecasts the weather she is also an avid educator on all things weather related. In December of 2005 she travelled to Mozambique with the WMO (a specialized arm of the United Nations) to help run a "weather broadcasting" course for 38 African nations. In 2000, Claire won an AMPIA (Alberta Motion Picture Industry Award) for "Best Female Host" and "Best Produced Educational Video" for science video designed to promote the new Grade 5-8 weather unit in the Alberta Public School science curriculum.

Claire grew up in England and moved to Canada in 1989. She is a niece of Barbara Edwards, who in 1974 became the BBC's first female weather presenter in the UK. In her free time Claire likes to go running and can often be found wandering the aisles of local music stores buying CDs.
