Yvonne Singleton-Davis
Yvonne Singleton Davis, born and raised in New York City, is the Founder, President & CEO of Sister to Sister:One in the Spirit, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit empowerment organization for girls and women of color. She strongly believes that she's living in her Divine purpose, and is extremely passionate about her work as a motivating force, making a positive difference to empower, and impact the lives of girls and women in the community. Sister to Sister, as it is sometimes referred, and its affiliates Sisters Mentoring Sisters, a program to mentor girls and young women from ages 13 and up; The Seasoned Sisters, a program designed for senior citizens and Savvy Sisters Jump, an up and coming Double Dutch team, have grown to proffer life-changing experiences to many women and girls.
Yvonne is a breast cancer survivor, who is on a mission to share her journey in order to promote wellness and the importance of getting Mammograms. Through her Sister to Sister annual empowerment and health conference for women, she has partnered with the American Cancer Society to proffer breast cancer screening, and "free" Mammograms to women who are either under-insured or living with no health insurance in the community.
She is a published author, a contributing writer to the Gumbo for the Soul Publications, and was recently accepted as a contributing writer to Gifted Women, an online magazine. As an educator who is very savvy when it comes to advocating on behalf of the children she loves, Yvonne grew increasingly frustrated with the misconception that teachers were solely responsible for the city's failing schools, so she courageously decided to speak the truth, and authored a riveting, jaw dropping, must-read book, entitled Teachers Under Siege.
As a strong woman who exudes great confidence, poise and style, she makes a conscience effort to operate in complete integrity; and is highly motivated by negative influences when it comes to getting the job done. Yvonne often says "I can show you better than I can tell you," and indeed ultimately shows that she's determined in letting nothing, or nobody, stop her from accomplishing a set goal. She speaks with authoritative wisdom, and in her excellent style of delivery, and interpersonal communications with community members, and especially children, she masterfully addresses and adjusts to the myriad styles and competencies of an audience that is often held spellbound and captivated by her every word.
Yvonne has a Master of Arts Degree and a Master of Science Degree, earned from The City College of New York. She was a featured educator in a past documentary aired on WABC's "Like It Is." She's been nominated to receive the Walt Disney's American Teacher Award, and is a multiple year honoree listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. She is a doting Grandmother, and currently resides in New York City with her loving husband, Wesley Davis.
