Wilmot Allen is an international management consultant and social entrepreneur committed to increasing sustainability for corporations and communities. He is Founder of 1 World Enterprises, a management consultancy which advises organizations in the areas of strategic planning, corporate social responsibility/diversity, organizational development, economic development and financial management both in the U.S. and internationally. In the U.S., Allen has worked with state and local governments and enterprises in the education, technology, financial services, healthcare, economic development and media sectors. The company works also as an advisor on investing in emerging markets and project manager on international development projects in the areas of institution building, economic development, economic planning, transparency and democratic governance. His work on the continent includes advising COMESA/World Bank, Lexon Capital, the Najaa Channel, BGL Private Equity and the Foreign Investment Network.

 

Prior to launching 1 World Enterprises, Allen served in management positions in corporate financial services and economic development. As a corporate finance professional, Allen has worked with the Finance and Strategic Planning group at the ABC TV Network (Walt Disney Company) in Burbank, California, responsible for the financial and strategic management of network programs and business development. Prior to ABC, Allen was an investment banker with JPMorgan H&Q in San Francisco, where he worked in the Digital Media and Technology Mergers & Acquisitions group, and at Merrill Lynch & Company in the Private Placements Group. In economic development roles, Allen has worked as a Venture Capital Associate with the State of Massachusetts' Commonwealth Enterprise Fund focusing in venture capital investments in technology and media companies. In these roles, he facilitated debt and equity transactions of over $3 billion. 

 

Allen is committed to social entrepreneurship. He is the U.S. country leader for the Youth Entrepreneurship & Sustainability (YES) organization, responsible for the development, implementation and management of the domestic programs to promote youth employment and economic empowerment. Allen is Co-Founder of an organization which provides educational and life skills support to Millennials. He is an advisory board member for the 5MK Financial Literacy Campaign for Operation Hope. He was selected recently as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and has served on the Global Agenda Council on Faith, a taskforce for the Millennium Development Goals and the Global Youth Taskforce of the Global Redesign Initiative.  He is a frequent speaker at public events, including at the World Economic Forum, Clinton Global Initiative University Summits, YES/Talberg Foundation Global Summits.  Allen writes on issues of economic development and inclusion, international business, leadership, youth empowerment and social ethics.

 

Allen earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, an M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a B.A. from Yale University.
