Sophia A. Nelson is the founder & President of iask, Inc. a national organization dedicated to the service-self-success of professional black women in the United States. Sophia is a unique speaker with a unique point of view in today's modern political world. She is a longtime Republican political strategist, opinion writer, and attorney. She formerly served as Senior Counsel in the law firm of Holland & Knight's Public Policy and Regulation Group. Ms. Nelson's practice was focused in the areas of homeland security, intelligence and defense issues. However, Ms. Nelson successfully represented clients before all of the federal civilian agencies.

 

Before coming to Holland & Knight, Ms. Nelson served as President and CEO of her own boutique government markets firm ALN Consulting, Inc. She also served concurrently as Of Counsel with Dutko Worldwide. Ms. Nelson is a published writer of many opinion and legal articles featured in The Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Legal Times and The Washington Times. Her articles are thought provoking, timely, and seek to challenge the conventional wisdom of the modern day Conservative Republican Party. As a longtime member of the moderate wing of the GOP, Sophia hopes to be a voice of introspection and unity for the GOP in the 2008 campaign.

 

Ms. Nelson has made speeches and corporate presentations to Fortune 500 companies and major trade associations headquartered in Washington, D.C. She has been featured in the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Influence Magazine, Minority Enterprise Advocate Magazine's Top Entrepreneurs under 40 lists, as well as the American Bar Association's national magazine. Sophia has appeared as a political analyst on air on shows such as FOXNEWS, CNN, C-SPAN, and other local TV and Radio shows.

 

Ms. Nelson has worked in GOP politics since she was 20 years old. She has served as Legislative Policy Analyst in the New Jersey Legislature in 1990 and as a Special Assistant in the Office of The Business Ombudsman in the Whitman Administration (R-NJ) in 1994. She also has extensive experience in the Congress, serving as an Investigative Counsel to Majority Staff of The House Government Reform Committee's Campaign Finance Investigation in the late 1990s. Additionally, she was a Director of Congressional & Public Affairs for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 1998-1999. She has worked on several national campaigns for Republican candidates, including George H.W. Bush in 1992, and President George W. Bush in 2000 & 2004.

 

Sophia resides in Dulles, Virginia.
