Dr. Dimitar M. Ivanov is a world class economist and a recognized expert-consultant on international investment strategies, international economic development, growth and finance; economic crises, emerging and developing markets (CEMEA Region). He was Economic Advisor to the State Council of the Republic of Bulgaria (1985-1991) and Senior Economic Advisor to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria (2002-2007), where he continues to act as Honorary Coordinator and Member of the President's International Economic Advisory Board.
Dr. Ivanov is also Economic Advisor to the UN Industrial Development Organization (since1980) and in this capacity he has advised the Governments of Moldova (1995-96), Azerbaijan (1996-98), Ukraine (1999-2000) and Belarus (2000-2001).
Academic Career and Academic Memberships
Dimitar Ivanov has been university professor since qualifying as economist in 1972. He has taught (Paris, Moscow, Sofia, Tokyo, Pittsburgh, Warwick, Sheffield, London) and published widely in the field of international economics and finance, restructuring of the emerging market economies; economic crises and cycles; foreign investment climate; Eastern European reforms. He has contributed chapters to many international volumes and has published 6 books and more than 300 papers, including journal & review articles in, amongst others, European Business and Economic Development (UK); The International Journal of Organizational Analysis (USA); Journal of East-West Business (USA); The Economist; The Independent.
He has extensive advising and business experience in East European & Russian economic & political affairs. In 1990, he was invited for an official visit to the USA as a honorary guest of the Council of the Economic Advisors of President George Bush Sr. His works on the results of the reforms in the emerging markets and his expertise are regularly used by the IMF, the World Bank, and the International Finance Corporation. Since 1988, he is senior economic consultant to UNIDO.
