Medard Gabel
Medard Gabel has presented keynote lectures, conducted workshops and consulted for over 400 corporations, colleges, universities, organizations, and governments throughout the world— including the U.S. Congress, State Department and Department of Agriculture, the governments of Spain, Tanzania, The Netherlands, Costa Rica and the United Nations, GM, IBM, Novartis, Chase Manhattan Bank, Du Pont, MasterCard International, Motorola and Burger King.
He is CEO of EarthGame where the Earth Dashboard and UN Earth Dashboards are developed, and from where the virtual Global Solutions Lab and WorldGame 2.0 are delivered. He is also involved with BigPicture Consulting (where he delivers the strategic planning tool The FutureGame and the Innovation Game) and of BigPictureSmallWorld where he develops and delivers educational programs that are in use throughout the world. He founded the World Game Institute, a UN-affiliated NGO and he worked with Buckminster Fuller for 12 years— where he learned the power and utility of strategic planning and design, whole systems thinking, global perspectives and a good sense of humor.
Mr. Gabel is the author of six books on global problems, solutions, strategic design and planning, the global energy situation, the global food situation, the U.S. food system, and multinational corporations. His global energy book (Energy, Earth and Everyone, published by Anchor Press/Doubleday), was the first to comprehensively examine the renewable energy resources of the entire world and to lay out a vision and plan for how to make the transition to a world powered entirely from renewable energy. His book on multinational corporations (Global Inc.: An Atlas of the Multinational Corporation, published by The New Press) was the first atlas of global enterprise and covered the scale, scope, growth, extent, power, problems and potentials of the modern multinational. His seminal papers on regeneration (1985) were the first published works on regenration in a social context.
One of his recent projects is the Global Solutions Lab— where participants come from around the world, are briefed by UN and other experts, and the develop strategies for reaching the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Another project is the Earth Dashboard— a website and exhibit that will be at the UN in New York that displays the vital stats of "Spaceship Earth" as a series of meters, gauges, thermometers, live webcams and other data visualization techniques.
Mr. Gabel combines a wealth of experience, information, insight and passion with an easy sense of humor in his presentations. His use of the latest in information visualization techniques allows him to transform data into knowledge as he connects the dots into big picture perspectives on where we are and are heading.
