Lisa Birmingham
B.A., B.ED.
NL, CANADAA Western Newfoundlander, Lisa Birmingham is the president of TLC Communications (Transition-Leadership-Coaching and Consulting) and has over two decades of experience as a Communications Expert, Facilitator and Speaker.
Lisa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg where she studied Theatre and English for 5 years. She then went on to earn an Education degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has performed in both professional and local theatre, and has taught in both the Canadian public school system and in the private international school system. This has fine tuned her abilities as a highly effective communicator in her lifelong journey of learning and teaching.
Over an 18 year career with one of North America's largest regional telecommunications providers, Lisa has conducted training sessions and workshops for a wide variety of corporate accounts in Western Newfoundland and Labrador. Lisa has helped individuals and teams transition through technological change, work stoppages, internal conflict, departmental restructuring and corporate downsizing. Lisa has also developed and delivered a variety of programs and keynotes on Leadership, Change Management, Employee Engagement, Customer Service and Communications to thousands of employees including senior leaders, management and unionized employees across the four Atlantic provinces.
Lisa believes that life is change and when you are through changing, you're through! Her own personal and professional experiences with change have made her highly adaptable and an expert at understanding the transitional internal process of re-orientation that naturally occurs as a result of change. Lisa has learned that life IS all about the journey, not the destination and every encounter along the way is an opportunity to motivate and inspire others. Lisa is currently working on her first book about life transitions and much like the subject and the author, the title keeps changing.
With enthusiasm and wisdom Lisa chooses to use real life stories and analogies to share universal concepts about life that are as applicable to one's personal well being as they are to their professional development and growth. She models the concepts she teaches with humor and compassion. Lisa's most notable skills lie in her ability to engage the hearts and minds of her audience by:
- Clarifying the way people think
- Intensifying the way they feel
- Calling them to act in new ways
- Getting people to see things differently
An active community volunteer, Lisa is currently a Certified Mediator with the Bay of Islands Youth Justice Committee; a Certified Professional Coach; a Certified Community Helping Skills Facilitator and a Certified Instructor with the international organization Roots of Empathy.
