Designer Guys
Anwar Mekhayesh, Allen Chan, and Matthew Davis are always in the conversation when people talk about the best interior designers in Canada. The talented trio are principals with the acclaimed, multi-disciplinary design firm, the Design Agency, and also host the popular Designer Guys show on HGTV Canada.
They have worked on projects that range from sports stadium skyboxes to trendy restaurants and stylish hotels. This is the team behind the award-winning Liberty Market Building, Lobby Restaurant, Banzai Sushi, and Salon Jie. Each of them contributes expertise from many areas, including architecture, engineering, and digital art and design. Davis has been the lead designer on numerous hospitality, retail, and residential projects. In addition to his television work, he has also written for the Toronto Star, plus lectured at the University of Toronto (his alma mater), McGill University, and the Institute Without Boundaries. He holds a degree from U of T’s School of Architecture, Landscape and Design, and has also studied in Paris and Spain.
Emerging technology and its seamless integration with the built environment is Chan’s main focus. A graduate of the internationally renowned Graduate School of Architecture Preservation and Planning at Columbia University, he also has a bachelor of landscape architecture from U of T, where he is a professor. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the American Institute of Architecture: Medal for Architectural Excellence, and the American Society of Landscape Architects Honour Award.
Mekhayesh is one of the key influencers in Canada’s interior design industry and involved creatively with all of the Design Agency’s projects. He has been featured on numerous television shows and in magazines. Mekhayesh is an honours graduate from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in mechanical engineering design. His eclectic sense of design, studies in engineering, and interest in travel and cultures all contribute to his passion for design and how it shapes the world we live in.
