Devon O'Day
TN, US
Bringing motivation and humor to audiences from all walks of life.
Accepting life on life’s terms and spinning gold from the burlap threads of feed sacks, Devon O’Day brings motivation and humor to audiences from all walks of life. Raised a Louisiana farm girl, Devon moved to New York City to pursue her goal of acting in musical theatre, and joined her sister, Faith Ford, already a successful actress. However, finding the gift of a plus size figure wasn’t the most sought after ‘ingénue’ look, she walked into the bright red doors of the Ford Agency.
After seeing a 60 Minutes special about a burgeoning new frontier of plus size modeling, she took a leap and became one of the pioneers in this new industry. From muumuus to polyester pants to bullet-proof girdles, her demure smile helped sell a myriad of fashions to the size 14-52 crowd. Fashions for this overpopulated demographic began to change, improve, and soon there were beautiful catalogues, and Devon O’Day became the “All American” model for J.C. Penney, Montgomery Wards, Belks, Lane Bryant, Catherine’s, and more.
Studying in the Writer’s Program at New York University, after her degree at Northeast Louisiana University, Devon O’Day began writing. She studied commercial acting and voice-over at the Wiest-Barron School in New York. After two years of the city, the desire to move to warmer climates precipitated a move to Nashville, TN where she landed a job in radio at WSIX, where she parlayed a ‘behind-the-scenes’ radio job into one of the highest profile broadcast jobs in country radio. Her voice work can be heard on BRAVO, Lifetime, and all the major networks. She can be heard on commercials for KFC, Hilton Hotels, Drexel Heritage Furniture, and countless films and documentaries.
Her writing came to fruition three years ago with her first book, published by Rutledge Hill Press, called “My Angels Wear Fur”. This simple collection of real life stories of animals that have touched Devon O’Day’s life is in its sixth printing with several more books planned on the horizon.
After eighteen years of 4am wake-up calls for the morning radio show, she left to join award-winning songwriter/artist Kim McLean in forming Hippie Chick Twang, a label services/publicity/publishing firm for artists and authors. Devon O’Day can still be heard as the host of the nationally syndicated Country Hitmakers Show, America’s longest running radio magazine and as a weekend host on SIRIUS Radio’s Spirit channel.
Devon O’Day’s writing has also seen success in the songwriting arena with songs recorded by George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, Hank Williams, Jr., Trace Adkins, and more. She tours with Kim McLean in speaking/music events for women, combining humor, motivation, humor, and persistence in a joyous celebration of life…wherever the journey leads!
