Monique Strydom is known as one of the hostages who was held hostage (together with her husband Callie) by Abu Sayyaf rebels for 127 days in the jungle on the Philippine island of Jolo in 2000.

She has been nominated as o a "Fair Lady Women of Courage" and Sunday Times Johnny Walker Hero of the year finalist and National Geographic Channel recently made a documentary about her ordeal.
Her books, "Shooting the Moon" and "Vrygekoop" are best sellers. During the last 18 years Monique has become known as a humanitarian who has helped thousands of people in need.
