FL, USAs a professional in health care and aging for almost two decades, Cheryl A. Kuba is a gerontologist, author, humorist and eldercare consultant through her company, Aging Parent Solutions. Cheryl is the former talk show host of "Care Radio" on News Talk 560 WIND in the Chicagoland area. She has been a guest lecturer for the Total Living Network's Significant Living Series. Cheryl is a past president of the National Speakers Assoc.- Illinois chapter.
Cheryl's book, Navigating the Journey of Aging Parents: What Care Receivers Want, is the result of research Cheryl conducted about care receivers – the dependent elderly who are cared for by a family member, friend or a stranger. Cheryl's extensive professional experience includes a master's degree in Gerontology, working with the Illinois Hospital Association and serving as executive director of a Chicago-based retirement community. She has been the regional marketing director for a national retirement housing corporation, marketing director in skilled nursing, and worked as the executive director of a national home care company's Midwest branch. The Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day sponsoring organization moved Cheryl from a volunteer to a paid position for its premiere event in Chicago in 1999. Cheryl's personal experience with her own parents during the last seven years of their lives fuels her passion.
A frequent media guest and speaker on the challenges family caregivers face, Cheryl has been featured on the Christian Broadcast Network's "TLN Live!" and "Living the Life," and appeared in national publications including Men's Health, Chicago Tribune, the Home News Tribune, and the Daily Herald. Cheryl was named 2005 Humanitarian of the Year by the National Speakers Association and honored with a Quality First designation for her presentation to the Illinois Health Care Association.
Cheryl's personal faith journey includes service as a Minister of Care for St. Pauls UCC Church in Chicago, as well as a member of Connectors;and Stephen's Ministry. Cheryl is a former member of the Horizon Hospice Ethics Committee. She is a founding director of Inspire! Ministry for Women. Cheryl has also completed the first unit of hospital chaplain ministry through the Northwestern University's program in Chicago. Proud of her heritage, she is the granddaughter of a Presbyterian minister.
Her professional memberships include Association of Senior Service Providers; American Society on Aging; National Association of Women Business Owners; National Association of Female Executives (NAFE); and the Professional Women's Club of Chicago.
She is certified in Predictive Index Analysis and in the Eden Alternative training.
On a personal note, Cheryl is an avid sailor, and won the Mike Royko Rib Fest in 1985...but please, don't ask her for the recipe!
