After dealing with a lifetime of health obstacles, at 23 years old, Mark was told he would be dead by 25. With his heart failing badly, his only chance at survival was a rare and dangerous heart-lung transplant and there was little chance a suitable donor would be found in time. He had to make a decision: surrender and quit, or find the courage to face life head-on, and fight.
Mark decided to fight. He moved 1000 miles from home to begin waiting. After nearly a year on the list, against the odds, Mark received a life-saving transplant. Less than 3 years later, he was crossing the finish line of the first of four marathons he would run.
