Dave Chalk
David Chalk generates success and excitement. He is an experienced award winning entrepreneur, television personality, technological visionary, and columnist. David now helps others tap into their own abilities by means of technology, educating and helping them realize their goals and dreams. David uses his own amazing story and expertise to inspire and empower the success-driven individual.
David Chalk has a secret; Leaning into the future. Chalk will explain this metaphor and the meaning behind it, and how to apply to business and life, in his talks.
Many technology and inspirational speakers function merely as witnesses or creative predictors. David Chalk lives it. If a doctorate degree in technology does not speak for itself, Chalk has 30 years of experience and he is recognized as one of Canada's leading technological strategists and marketers, not only by the media, but by the industry itself. In fact, the industry listens to what David has to say; he acts as their connection to the real user. Chalk has personally consulted with leaders such as Bill Gates, the CEOs of Sony, Samsung, Intel, and Nicholas Negroponte (the MIT professor who truly created the mouse, the graphical interface we know as Windows, and the entire computer strategy that put a man on the moon in 1969.) Chalk is not a sideline reporter, he is an experienced veterann whose expertise comes from the battlefield, not books. He has watched 80% of businesses fail with complicated technology, but he will share the secrets of the 20% who utilize technology to excel their success. Chalk will use his extensive knowledge to adequately equip those who desire success. It must be understood that technological advancements can be a great ally, but if they are ignored or overlooked, they can wreak havoc in a business. David will supply all the guidelines needed for survival, by leaning into the future.
As a young boy Chalk had the rare opportunity of meeting Queen Elizabeth. It was a moment in retrospect that has shown Chalk how a single event may, unknowingly have an effect on destiny. Taking a picture of the Queen with his "Polaroid Insta-matic Camera"', Chalk handed it to her to see; never had she seen an instant picture of herself.
As she handed it back for him to keep, her words made an impact. "Isn't is marvelous what technology can do today, I think there is a future in it for you David". Although Chalk was always interested in the advancing new world, there would be a huge obstacle blocking his path. This obstacle was a severe learning disability due to the lack of cognitive functions of his left brain. As a child, Chalk was told that learning new things would be near impossible. His story will leave you shocked and inspired. When computers began to enter the mainstream market, he knew technology would be a powerful learning tool and he seized the opportunity to use computers as a means to unlock his potential.
Today, Chalk helps others tap into their abilities, using his passion and technology as a vehicle. He is a leader in e-learning and online training, branding, and developing web content for companies such as Yahoo!, Telus, and RIM. Chalk explores the real possibilities of the human mind and shows how attitude and technology can help people achieve their dreams.
Chalk's involvement with technology began back in the early days of computing when the sale of his Apple II computer fuelled his first business venture. With the $1,000 proceeds he received from the sale, he started a retail store in his parents' basement. This company was the beginning of Doppler Computer Superstores, a retail giant in Canada and the US. It quickly became a business with sales excess of $150 million. David has been in the industry from the start and seen it all.
Chalk is recognized throughout North America as a leading public expert on technology, not only by the media, but by the industry itself. He hosts his own TV show (Dave Chalk Connected In-Flight, on Air Canada), writes regular articles for several publications (including The Globe & Mail and Canada.com) and speaks on behalf of companies such as Microsoft, TELUS, HP and Sony. He has more than 600 presentations under his belt. Chalk is very active now in his long established company, The WoW Factory ( www.thewowfactory.ca ) is a digital media agency that emphasizes and facilitates Branding in the marketing world. It was the first company to publish a retail computer magazine in Canada in the early '80s (purchased by Maclean Hunter Magazine Corp. after only a few issues.) It also developed a marketing strategy for RIM that saw Blackberry sales at Verizon grow 36% in the next quarter, the most successful brand positioning project for Verizon to date. He later sold the web application to RIM for $23 million. In 2005 the WoW Factory created the launch for Sony Interactive TV. Chalk has also worked on Brand projects of other leading companies such as Electronic Arts, Samsung, the Royal Bank, Telus, Wendy's, Microsoft, Air Canada, and Coca Cola. David has been named "One of the Top 50 employers to work for in Canada" and "Most Outstanding Marketer in Canada" (Retail Council of Canada.)
Chalk delivers 7 different talks which focus on technology, brand strategy, learning, and change management. Chalk utilizes his abilities to explain complex ideas in an engaging, humorous, and educational manner. He provides interactive learning solutions which help organizations communicate more effectively with employees, business partners, and consumers. He speaks from the heart, and he will transfer his ability to achieve success to others, by sharing the secrets that have made him the accomplished man he is today.
