Lee Mazzilli became a major league manager for the first time when he signed on with the Baltimore Orioles on November 7th 2003. Prior to becoming the Orioles Manager, Mazzilli was a coach with the New York Yankees. During Mazzilli's four seasons with the Yankees, New York won the AL East every season. Before coming to New York, Mazzilli managed for three years in the Yankees' farm system. He managed the Class-A Tampa Yankees in 1997-98, then moved up to Double-A Norwich before joining the major league coaching staff. During his playing career Mazzilli played for five major league teams over 14 seasons, which included winning a World Series Championship with the 1986 New York Mets. Mazzilli finished his playing career in 1989 with a .259 batting average, 93 homers and 460 RBIs.
