Erin Haugen
PhD, LP, CMPC
ND, USHigh performers are humans first.
I work with teams and organizations in demanding industries who are ready to invest in mental health so they can perform their best when it matters most.
Dr. Erin Haugen is driven to help people use performance psychology to improve their lives. After working for nearly 20 years as a sport and performance psychologist, she understands that high performance is not only a set of tools but a way of being that we can bring to everything that we do. She embodies this in her consulting within high-performing industries including collegiate and professional sport, healthcare, and higher education. Her message is clear: Pressure isn't going away, so the way we deal with it has to change.
Dr. Haugen has a PhD in Clinical Psychology and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at River Valley Services/Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, CT and post-doctoral residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA. She is also the Founder and CEO of Haugen Performance Consulting.
Dr. Haugen is a nationally sought-after speaker in performance psychology. She presents regularly at the annual meetings of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), American Psychological Association (APA), and Clinical/Counseling Sport Psychology Association (CCSPA). Dr. Haugen was awarded the prestigious Jack Weakley Award of Distinction from NATA in 2023 for her lifetime contributions to athletics, athletic training, and sports medicine. She's developed several research-backed programs to help high performing individuals develop confidence, reduce anxiety, and engage meaningfully with their work.
Dr. Haugen holds a variety of leadership roles and infuses psychological science in practical ways into her work. She is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota and former faculty member (2016-2020) at Altru Family Medicine Residency. She continues to provide mental health and performance psychology training to sports medicine fellows in physical therapy, athletic training students, and licensed mental health professionals working with athletes. She is a former member (2017-2019) and past-president (2018-2019) of the North Dakota State Board of Psychologist Examiners (NDSBPE).
In her spare time, Dr. Haugen is a competitive cyclist and enjoys family time with her husband, Dave, who specializes in couples & relationship therapy, and herding mix rescue dogs.
