Dr. Painter gives science-based information about living a whole life, spirit, soul, and body, in health.  He inspires people to live a life promoting wellness. He conducts wine tastings demonstrating the culinary appreciation of wine, along with the health benefits. He has earned a PhD. from the University of Illinois, is Professor Emeritus from Eastern Illinois University, and is currently the Director of the MS in Functional and Integrative Medicine at John Patrick University and adjunct Professor at the University of Texas, School of Public Health. His recent research areas include reducing the risk of heart disease through phytonutrients and dietary intervention, mindless eating, and stealthy calorie control to reduce calorie intake.  He speaks nationally and internationally on various nutritional, leadership, and inspirational topics.   Jim has been a Registered Dietitian since 1980 and has served as the Director of Nutrition research for the California Raisin Marketing Board, and nutrition adviser for Sun-Maid Raisin Growers of California and Paramount Farms Wonderful Pistachios. He is the Chair of Sugar-wise and consults for the National Dairy Council. He has served on the American Heart Association's Healthier Diet Business Committee and is a member of the American Society for Nutrition.

He worked for Marriott Corporation in the 1980s, taught nutrition at the University of Illinois during the 1990s, and Chaired the School of Family and Consumer Sciences at Eastern Illinois University until 2013.  After 2013, his focus has been on presenting and consulting in the areas of nutrition and wellness.  

Jim has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations to his credit and has authored the textbook, Nutrition You Can Use and his latest book Let's Eat Mindfully!
