Brooke Richey
A survivor of human trafficking, gang stalking and developmental trauma from childhood, Brooke Richey pleads her audience to use their voice and speak out what happened to them.
Brooke Richey is a vocalist, film composer, storyteller, and a woman of resilience after living a life of trauma for 21 years. Brooke was able to recover a 15-year old suppressed memory, blinding her from recognizing the originating root of trauma in her life at age 9. This event in it's essence was a form of familial trafficking, where a family member and caregiver isolated and forced Brooke to watch a film containing horrific graphic content. This trauma severely damaged her psyche and development, because it was never spoken and never addressed. This caused her to develop C-PTSD and live a risky and reactive lifestyle until her “waking up” experience of being trafficked, again, by a female vacation-rental host in Austin, Texas, where Brooke was drugged and assaulted in her sleep by a third-party attacker.
Brooke practiced voice-journaling over a 3-year time period that helped her find the suppressed memory from the age of 15, at age 30. Brooke is adamant that the words you speak over yourself, as well the negative experiences you never give voice to, will determine your life and your reality. Despite the horrors Brooke has faced, she has never been tempted to harm herself, take her own life or harm others. She urges her listeners to always find the light in the darkness of their experiences, which has been and always will be, them. In order to keep moving in life, Brooke has looked to her silver linings, largely in the music industry. Brooke has written and produced 2 indie-rock albums, several film scores and most recently was the musical director for Mean Girls The Musical, High School edition. Brooke regularly performs with her band Black Bird Collective, and uses the stage as opportunities to encourage the audience to keep going and keep finding the light.
