The Leadership Mask: Why pretending everything is fine is costing leaders trust, confidence, and results.

The biggest threat to leadership today isn't burnout, disengagement, or turnover.

It's the mask leaders wear while pretending everything is fine.

Shannon Talbot is a leadership speaker, author, and former corporate executive who helps leaders take off the mask, build trust faster, and create teams people want to stay on.

After spending 17 years leading teams and driving change initiatives in financial services and advertising, Shannon discovered some of her most powerful leadership lessons in an unexpected place: mentoring incarcerated men in a California medium-security prison. Through those conversations, she uncovered striking parallels between prison and the workplace, where fear of judgment, avoiding difficult conversations, and low trust often prevent people from doing their best work.

Today, Shannon delivers practical, story-driven keynotes that help leaders communicate with greater confidence, strengthen trust, navigate change, and lead with less pressure and more impact. Known for her honest storytelling and relatable style, she leaves audiences with practical tools they can immediately apply.

Shannon has worked with organizations including Nestlé, Scotiabank, Publicis Groupe, The HRPA, The Government of Canada, Enbridge, and Colliers. Her insights have been featured on CBC Radio, Breakfast Television, Business Insider, and Today's Parent.

She holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, is the author of the award-finalist book Breaking Free: Stop Holding Back, Start Being You, and serves as a Chair with MacKay CEO Forums, facilitating peer advisory groups for CEOs and business leaders across Ontario.
