Trauma Recovery and Wellness for Healers
CO, USHealers need healing too...
· Learn to heal through what you know and feel (your mind & heart)
· Learn to heal through what you eat & feel (your body)
· Learn to heal through who you know (community)
As healers, we dedicate ourselves to holding the shattering that occurs in those we treat but it is easy to neglect the shattering that we carry from our own traumatic experiences. Because treatment providers are the holders of reality and pain for so many, burn out is real. This is especially true when you are struggling through your own pain. From the insight I can provide, it is possible for you to find ways to heal and increase your capacity to perform the important work that you do.
I KNOW THIS IMPORTANT WORK OF HEALING FIRSTHAND. From the age of 26 to 38, I was in and out of hospitals for medical procedures related to fertility challenges, car wrecks, and colon cancer, all occurring during my career as a mental health provider! Besides lived experience, I have almost 30 years of professional experience in the mental health field and 13 years practicing integrated health. My current work is in integrating psychotherapy with experiential, nutritional, and body centered interventions. This means treatment that seeks to go beyond talk therapy by incorporating techniques that tap into regulating bodily responses to stress and trauma. Thus, my extensive practice in nutrition and body centered therapies has afforded me the opportunity to collaborate and co-treat with the following professionals:
· allopathic & naturopathic physicians
· nurses
· nutritionists & dietitians
· massage therapists
· chiropractors
· personal trainers
AS A CONSULTANT AND INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER, I like spreading the message about promoting trauma recovery as it relates to psychological, biological, and relational wellness. Just recently, I presented to professionals spanning 120 countries on trauma recovery within the healing community. I have also done scholarly research on the impact of trauma on relationships with self and others. Because of this dearth of knowledge and experience, my message has made an indelible impact on the psychotherapists I currently mentor who have been able to use their own trauma stories has a clinical lens to understand their clients in a more deeper and meaningful way.
