Erik runs two businesses, a branding agency called Focus Lab, and a leadership development firm called Built on Purpose. If you had asked the high school version of Erik what he would be doing for a career, you would have heard something like rock star or studio producer. Music has long been an integral part of his life, and remains so today. In college, Erik studied music with the intention of becoming an educator and following in his parents’ footsteps. His predilection for technology won the career battle though, and he moved on to start his first business, Focus Lab, in 2010.
Transitioning from musician, to developer, to entrepreneur, Erik has a variety of interests these days. What ties them all together, though, is a hunger to learn how and why things work. What was once “How does this chord progression work?” turned into “How does a dependable website get built?” and eventually became “What does it take to build a great company?”
After spending a decade building a fantastic and thriving company, Erik now teaches others how to do the same and how to overcome obstacles that might get in their way. His speaking style can be summed up by the term "Motivational Teacher." He doesn't just leave an audience with an inspiring moment. He leads them to inspiring movement. With an emphasis on taking action, Erik teaches in a way that connects with his audience—large or small—and leaves each person feeling like he spoke directly to them.

Designing a business that doesn't rely on you to keep going—and growing
Most executives and business owners cannot take a month off from work and know that their business will not only survive, but maybe even thrive. Far too often, as entrepreneurs we find ourselves putting out one fire after another and our focus time rapidly depleting. We attend meetings, seminars, and conferences gaining great insights and ideas, yet struggle to implement them. We're stuck in a system and a rhythm.
This keynote will help get us...
Getting Back Up
What's one thing that everyone in business has in common? We've all failed at something before. And we all have to get back up.
Even if you haven't noticed, you've likely failed at something. There's a lot of risk in entrepreneurship,, in being trusted by customers; in being a leader to your growing team. And with risk often comes failure at some point.
It's time to talk about the realities of...
Leading through Storytelling

Have you noticed that some people just seem to be better storytellers than others? While it's true that some people just have a knack for it, it's entirely possibly to...
Creating Your Culture
Every workplace has a culture whether you realize it or not. The best organizations out there tend to shape and influence the culture on purpose. In this keynote, we look at how everyone in an organization, from the founders to the newest hires, can help create and sustain a healthy culture.
It's important for leaders to recognize that culture is the combination of what you create and what you allow. Together we spend time exploring what healthy...
Virtual Presentation
I started presenting virtually in 2012! I have high-quality equipment, a clean and professional visual space, and quality gigabit internet (along with a backup internet service provider). At this point, I've navigated just about any hiccup or problem that can crop up during a virtual presentation.
