When you want to engage, equip and excite an audience, you want Darlene! She didn't stumble into leadership or speaking, she persevered through a series of no's in her life and career. She utilizes the uniqueness of her experience as a former Warden of three Federal prisons to help audiences learn how obstacles can be resized into opportunities.

Here's a snippet of her journey:  As a High Schooler when the Counselor turned her away for inquiring about college too early as a Freshman, she waited a few weeks and came back.  Once, when she was notified that she was not hired for an entry level position, she called the Human Resource Department and informed them that a non-selection letter was mistakenly mailed to her home.  She was hired a few weeks later.

When she advanced up the ranks in the Federal Bureau of Prisons from a probationary correctional officer, to the smallest percentage of Federal government employees, the distinguished Senior Executive Service appointment as a Warden and served as the first and only woman to date at the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta, Georgia and was asked by staff and inmates what should they call her, she made it a teaching moment.

When asked each year by staff after her first, second and third assignment as Warden at the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta, GA,

"Why did she stay?" She responded saying,

"It isn't about me, it's bigger than me."

Darlene is an experienced leader with over 25 years of leadership experience.  She's lead through some of the most difficult and toughest circumstances. She provides training to leaders on leading oneself and developing others. Darlene is an advocate for leaders and for the development of emerging leaders.

She's a speaker who is a motivational teacher! When she is delivering a Keynote, it will include teachings on life and leadership lessons.  When she is providing leadership training, it will include a series of bite sized keynotes to help leaders increase their self awareness, know the needs of their teams and deliver solutions to help leaders and the organization grow.

With the energy, enthusiasm, and engagement that Darlene delivers to an audience, they are served with messages of perseverance, resilience, determination and encouragement with her witty humor evident throughout the experience.  She provides the audience with a deliberate and driving message to reach for their highest, to continue to climb forward, to pursue excellence and to reject average on all levels.

Since 2017:  As CEO of Leadership Conditioning, Personal & Professional Development, LLC, she provides leadership training, along with personal and professional development to firms invested in the growth of their teams and open to creative solutions.  She has provided leadership training to a host of organizations to include, but not limited to the Atlanta Police Department, Fayette County Fire Department, Warden Exchange, Probation & Parole Agencies, as well as other organizations.

2006 - 2017:  Held the position as CEO (Warden for 11 years) on three occasions at three different federal prisons.

1998 - 2006:  Served as an Associate Warden for 8 years in two Federal prisons. Provided leadership oversight of the operations of the prison to ensure safety and security to staff, inmates and the public.

Battling & Building While Leading

For every battle, a leader must build!

Welcome to leadership!  It's a beautiful way to serve, but it's not necessarily easy.  Large numbers of people have some common fears. Fear of change is high on the list, along with the fear that comes with the passing of the baton from leader to another.  Such a "change" frightens people, yet it is often needed in many instances for leaders to improve  organizations.

As a raving fan myself, I am delighted to recommend Darlene Drew as a motivational speaker. Darlene spoke for the Greater North Fulton Chamber’s Businesswomen Organized for Leadership and Development group during its Regional Women’s Leadership Summit in 2024, and we still hear about the impact of her story. Darlene spoke of her success as a senior leader in a resoundingly male dominated industry, in fact the only woman to have ever served as Warden of the US Penitentiary in Atlanta. Her personal story shows what drive and determination along with a focus on pouring into your people can achieve. In fact, it must have been that same personal determination that drove her to honor a commitment to our organization just shortly after her husband had passed away. Because she had already committed to serve as a speaker, she wanted to fulfill that commitment, she did so without ever letting on to the struggle she was facing personally. Darlene is a dedicated professional who pours into her audience and empowers them to believe they can do anything they set their mind to. She is compelling, she is funny, and she is real. One simply cannot hear from her without admiring her journey and internal fortitude while at the same time wanting to share a cup of coffee and become her friend. I highly recommend her with no reservations!

At Keller Williams Realty The Rawls Group, we believe our real estate agents’ success is fueled by the powerful combination of intentional skills training and a consistently cultivated growth mindset. Darlene Drew was highly recommended by a respected business executive as an exceptional keynote speaker and trainer for our Empower Series. This exclusive event was designed by Darlene specifically for our agents, with a focus on developing effective communication skills that strengthen relationships, enhance active listening, and build greater self-awareness around how we influence and lead others through communication. With an audience of our highest-performing agents, Darlene opened the session with a keynote that was both engaging and deeply impactful. From the very beginning, her delivery captured the room. Our audience leaned in, fully attentive and actively engaged in the outstanding leadership workshop that followed. Our agents walked away with practical tools to elevate their leadership, with a strong emphasis on connection, valuing others, demonstrating empathy for clients, and clearly understanding their “big why.” Drawing from her extensive leadership experience, Darlene delivered insights and solutions that both challenged and inspired our high performers to continue raising the bar. Darlene’s ability to engage elite professionals while inspiring them toward greater excellence was truly remarkable. Darlene brings an impressive and powerful combination of excitement, high energy, and professionalism to her training. I am confident that her services will be an asset to any organization in any industry. I highly recommend Darlene to any organization seeking a highly skilled Leadership Trainer, Executive Coach, and/or Speaker committed to developing exceptional leaders.

I’ve experienced Darlene Drew’s work as a speaker, leadership workshop and roundtable facilitator, and podcast guest. In every setting, she brings the same rare combination of presence, energy, and command of the room. As a speaker, Darlene takes over the room almost immediately, not in a showy way, but in a way that makes people want to lean in. Her stories are extremely engaging and they draw the audience in fast, which is a big reason people stay locked in with what she’s teaching. She engages an audience quickly, draws people out, and keeps them fully with her. I suggested her for the Women in Leadership Summit at the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and she captivated the audience and they loved her. She was dynamite. If you need a high-energy, high-impact leadership keynote or workshop, Darlene is an easy yes.

Our VISION EMC program is designed to increase leadership abilities as well as the industry knowledge of our employees. Adding Darlene’s True Colors Training was a no-brainer. She immediately builds rapport and keeps the attention of the participants. Our employees were able to learn, get to know each other, and have fun all at the same time. Having a good time at a training is a bonus that people don’t expect, but that’s exactly what she brought to the table. As I observed her coaching style of training, you really get an understanding of how focused it is on personal growth, leadership, and the ability to relate to others. Prior to her presentation, I shared specific areas of concerns and she tackled each of these in a way that addressed the needs. This is the second year we’ve asked Darlene to be part of our internal development program and I feel confident it won’t be the last. The response we received from our employees was outstanding. I look forward to seeing the future benefits our organization experiences because of the foundation she laid during her training sessions.

Greetings Darlene… It is my sincere prayer that this message finds you well, and recouping from all that you poured out today! I would be remiss not to take this moment just to say “Thank You!” You are amazing….and I am so glad that about 300 of our staff had the chance to witness it first hand on today! The feedback has been nothing but wonderful. I truly believe individuals left today ready to fight another day for the change they want to see. It is one thing to have a powerful speaker come in and deliver a prolific speech…..it is another to have one that comes in and spends the day with you, measures the atmosphere and energy in the room, and then becomes one of you. That alone shows you are not just there for a “time” but for a “Purpose”! Thank you for the light you bring into the room. Thank you for just being who you are. Thank you for your genuine spirit of caring. Maxwell can’t teach that…it has to authentically come from within. There is some things only God can do….and He has truly ordained and blessed you to be doing exactly what you are doing!! Thank You!!

Ms. Drew is a phenomenal speaker who connects with her audience and provides them with insightful information measured by her life experience. She does her homework before giving any presentation. Because of her homework, she can relate to the audience. I have known Ms. Drew for many years. The organization chart says she worked under my supervision twice, but we worked together. She has an uncanny ability to identify and use the issues to challenge her audience. Her listening skills are what make her an exceptional presenter. It has been many years since I have had the opportunity of asking her to speak to a bunch of Wardens and Correctional Administrators. She always has been purposeful, competent, and aligned with her audience. She has 10 times the skill level she had when we first started, but her growth has been astronomical because of her desire for lifelong learning. It would be my pleasure to work for or with Ms. Drew in the future. Her work ethic combined with her intellect is difficult to match. When you’re looking for a skilled speaker well capable of connecting, engaging and energizing your audience, Ms. Drew is the speaker and trainer for you!

I first heard Darlene speak at an organization of which I am a member. As I listened to her provide training on leadership, I was certain she could be helpful to our organization. After she completed her presentation, we briefly spoke about her providing training to the members of our Leadership Team at the Firm. There were specific areas that I requested she include in the presentation in order to help meet a current need of our team. Because I heard her previously provide leadership training, I was confident that she could do the same for us. I was correct, she delivered in an exceptional manner. The feedback from our team can be summed up in their own words: “The ninety minutes flew by. It didn’t seem like it was 90 minutes at all. It was great timing for us to participate in the breakout groups and share our ideas and hear more about the principles and practices being taught.” We’re interested in seeing her return next year. It was a great training workshop!

PASSION CAN’T BE HIDDEN! After Darlene Drew delivered an outstanding keynote on Saturday, February 25th @ Boeing on the title of “Keep Moving Forward,” days after her delivery of this keynote, I continued to get rave reviews about her as she added tremendous value both during her keynote and the Question & Answer Session that followed. She even hung around after the event for some post event networking. As a result we are welcoming new members from the company into the Maxwell family. I felt confident that I could have high expectations of Darlene. She exceeded those expectations and I could not have been more pleased with how Darlene served our team. Darlene was referred to me from another member of our organization to serve as a Speaker for our WIFS Atlanta Annual EXPLO held on September 15, 2022. As we continue to grow as an organization, the points Darlene made in her presentation could not have been more timely for this annual event. Her presentation topic was “Leading With Perseverance.” Some of the points that stand out to me that she shared was about the various types of defining moments in leadership. Another was actually a series of five points she identified women in leadership should know. Last but not least, she shared a point about growing yourself and why ongoing growth is essential for leaders and for those we lead. Her presentation was outstanding! The atmosphere in the room was energized, she engaged our members with questions that drew in their interaction. I believe our members were inspired and left with many of Darlene’s teaching points that we could apply. Their feedback showed how much they enjoyed her presentation and what they learned from it. This was a referral that I’m very pleased that we received. I have no doubt any organization or group that hires Darlene to speak her delivery will be outstanding to you as it was for us! Indeed, she was spot on! Prior to the event, Darlene devoted the time to speak with me and intently listened as I shared with her our goals and aspirations for our members. She asked questions and relayed what she would do in providing a message that would be germane to our sorority with a focus on the importance of leadership, the impact of leadership and the importance of succession planning. She explained her Keynote would leave our Sorors energize, equipped, inspired, motivated and resourced to lead, plan and persevere in the midst of obstacles faced in leadership. I received a referral about Darlene’s services as a Leader, Speaker & Coach. I reached out to her seeking an Executive Coach. She helped me in areas that I desired to hone my skills and exceeded my expectations. With her leadership, speaking and coaching skills, I’ve been able to excel in all of the areas I identified where I wanted our focus to be placed. I was fortunate to meet Darlene at a Virginia Probation and Parole Conference in 2018, where she facilitated a workshop on Leadership. Darlene has a magnetic and charismatic personality that draws you in to the subject and keeps you fully engaged in the subject matter. She challenged us to candidly identify our leadership skills and develop a plan to gain needed skills. She left the 300 attendees feeling empowered to remove our perceived barriers and step into leadership roles. This workshop session changed the course of my career in that it moved me into action into seeking opportunities to optimize my Leadership capabilities. Darlene is vested in cultivating leadership growth personally and professionally. She speaks with confidence and generously shares her keys to success. She is truly a powerful and transformative trainer. I would highly recommend her to an agency seeking support in growing Leaders.

Darlene spoke to the Rotary Club of Stone Mountain on the topic of Leadership. Our new officers were just installed. She provided guidance to start off the year right! Darlene shared three leadership lessons along with three leadership concepts she learned from her Mentor, John C. Maxwell. Her points and tips on effective leadership were well received by our membership. We look forward to having her speak again! Her personal experiences provide her with an ability to talk on a myriad of interesting and thought provoking subjects. I also joined her Change Your World Transformation Tables, comprised of men and women poised to make a difference in the world. It was great to share views in a small group setting with leaders who are striving to create positive work environments in which their employees can grow and their organizations can prosper! Darlene was an excellent Facilitator!

My philosophy on leadership is leadership is not just talking the talk, but walking the walk through transparency demonstrating to those under your command, how things should be done. I contacted Darlene Drew in an effort to enhance my employees as it relates to leadership. Darlene agreed and put on such a dynamic motivating and encouraging Leadership Seminar. My employee’s being so excited throughout the seminar, at the end, they asked, “Chief, when is she coming back?” Darlene simply understands leadership. She is transparent. Not only did she perform the class; however she was so engaged with the students in my session. She got involved as if she were in the training. Darlene Drew simply understands what it takes to be a great leader. I commend Darlene!!

Ms. Drew provided my team of 7 employees a training session for True Colors – Keys to Successful Business Leadership on August 18, 2021. The training True Colors purpose was to identify each of my staff communication style. She was well prepared and organized. The training was conducted proficiently and timely. Ms. Drew was very knowledgeable on the topics and was ready to answer any questions from my staff. She had a professional attitude. In addition, Ms. Drew engaged my staff in different activities with break out group sessions providing scenarios to see how everyone would handle the situation. Some of my staff were able to learn how they have similar personalities/styles as their colleagues. By understanding how everyone communicate either differently or similar, they are better able to understand each other. Also, being in a virtual environment and having some of my staff located in different parts of the US, they were able to learn more about each other. The True Colors Training has helped me to understand each staff members style, so I can better communicate with each of them as well. One of my staff who usually don’t participate in my Team meetings felt comfortable and participated in the meeting. She indicated the training was interactive and the environment was safe space, so she was comfortable with participating in the training. The True Colors Training has improved my Team’s communications.

I am elated about the Woman of the Year Event. Darlene was superb: before, during and after! She captivated the audience, delivered a valuable message and gave everyone in the room some take-aways. I loved every thing about her address and delivery: She was raucously funny, she was human, empathized, and had us at "Hello!" One thing I particularly appreciate was that, for me, Darlene directly addressed the ladies in the room exactly the right amount for a crowd that was not exclusively ladies. It was artful, but I realize it was her being who she is. Darlene set the bar at a new high for this event and we are so very grateful. I just couldn't leave the day of the event without sending Darlene a note of thanks!

"You know you are in the presence of someone special when you experience Darlene. Darlene was recommended to me by one of our regular presenters for Warden Exchange - the premiere transformational leadership program for prison wardens in the U.S. Thankfully, she is now one of our regular presenters for both in person and on line presentations. Why? She lives and breathes leadership. She motivates people to reach their ultimate potential. Whether it's the word of the day exercise with an incarcerated man under her care as a Federal warden, helping peers transform prisons, or meeting with executive teams across corporate America; she brings the same energy, enthusiasm and genuine sense of caring. You feel it!

Darlene was the guest speaker at my Rotary of Hall County meeting when I first had the privilege of listening to her share her story and inspire us to pursue our goals no matter how outside of the box they may be. I waited in line with my three daughters to speak with her after the Rotary Meeting so I could introduce them to a powerful female leader. I also wanted to invite her to speak at an event, the non-profit I lead (Women Source) hosts every year called Motivating Women, which she accepted. Darlene speaks with authority and humor. She leads her audience on a journey that begins with her relentless pursuit of her own work goals and ends with the audience being charged and ready to go after their own personal and professional ambitions. WomenSource has secured Darlene for a second speaking engagement after the overwhelming response we had the first time she spoke to us. We need her voice and wait eagerly to hear more from Darlene.

"I met Darlene in a group setting initially and her personality drew me in. I had the opportunity to take part in Darlene's online group leadership classes, which truly helped me to understand that I have tools needed to be a leader of my own life. She helped me find the confidence that I needed to take control of where I wanted to go with my career and also to be a leader in all areas of my life. She is a great motivational speaker who pulls from her passion to truly help others learn to lead. She is witty, warm and engaging, but also strong, confident, and a true example of a great teacher and leadership coach. Very detailed and precise, nothing but excellence. I now call her friend and I am forever grateful for the lessons she has provided to me."

I needed someone who could do a set of training workshops for our mini-conference speakers. Someone dynamic, who knew something about how to connect with an audience, deliver impactfully, leave an impression and do it all virtually (since we're currently in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic still). I immediately thought of Darlene and she 110% delivered! Our speakers thoroughly enjoyed our Speakers Workshop Darlene conducted for them. I saw people taking down copious notes throughout her presentation. She was engaging and modeled the behavior she was teaching about and I heard nothing but glowing remarks about her workshop. People told me how much they appreciated that were thoughtful enough to put together a workshop like this one for our mini-conference speakers. I highly recommend hiring Darlene to train speakers or even to speak at your next event as she's one of the most effective, even inspiring speaker/trainers I know!

Have you ever heard the saying, "You don't know what you don't know?" That was the case with me. Creating a business from the ground up and managing a large team was new for me. I knew that I dealth with workplace conflict in the past and did not want it to spill over into my business. Upon my first session with Mrs. Drew, I quickly realized there were many differenct ways in which I could improve as a leader. Not only have I gained better leadership skills, but now I also communicate better. As a CEO, it is important to always keep in mind the "tone at the top" theory that states the attitude of employees is based on the actions of their leaders. My new ways of communicating have improved company morale thus allowing the company to generate more revenue and have a much better workflow. I would recommend anyone that is in a leadership role in any type of organization to work with Darlene Drew!

We hired Darlene for several training projects. The first one was a Leadership Training face-to-face which happened to be just days before the pandemic shut down part of the business. The team loved it and it helped everyone to work together even better during these challenging last few months. Currently individual staff members are attending True Colors class and the feedback is great. I can see how the participants are applying the learned content directly in the workplace. In addition, Darlene has consulted us, the owners, throughout this year. I highly recommend her services. She makes learning fun and interactive and Darlene is great at connecting people.
