Suzanne Wertheim
Learn from an expert on effective and optimized language! Former professor of linguistic anthropology has trained tens of thousands how to upgrade and modernize their communication.
Dr. Suzanne Wertheim is an international keynote speaker and expert on language optimization. She helps people understand the hidden damage they may be doing with their communication, how costly that damage can be, and how they can do better.
_____
After getting her Ph.D. in Linguistics from UC Berkeley, Dr. Wertheim held faculty positions at Northwestern, University of Maryland, and UCLA. She has done fieldwork with speakers as diverse as Tatar nationalists in the former Soviet Union, Native Americans in central California, comedians in Los Angeles, and female engineers of San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Dr. Wertheim was even under secret police surveillance in Russia under Putin!
In 2011, Dr. Wertheim left the university system to apply her expertise to real-world problems. She now runs Worthwhile Research & Consulting, which guides clients to more modern, strategic, and inclusive language.
Communication is one of the most complicated things we do as humans. And because language is so complex, we often send messages with hidden meanings that are NOT what we actually want to say. If we don't examine and update our language, it is easy for us to accidentally offend and alienate people.
"Low-quality" language at work costs companies a lot of money. Prospective clients may be driven away by language in marketing or by a few ill-chosen words used by sales people. Job candidates and employees may be pushed away by the language used by interviewers, and executives. And unpleasant interactions with customer experience representatives may lose customers and market share.
In her lively and engaging presentations, Dr. Wertheim uses science to give audiences the power to:
1. understand where their language is going wrong
2. upgrade to more strategic and more modern language that lands well with everyone.
At Worthwhile, Dr. Wertheim's clients have included tech giants such as Google and Reddit, financial companies such as Charles Schwab, and national news organizations such as News Nation. She has led workshop series for executives, trained full companies, and given keynotes for organizations large and small.
