Amy Borkowsky
NY, US
Bestselling author of "Amy's Answering Machine" who's made a comedy career from listening to her mom
Amy Borkowsky has been saving her answering machine messages for over a decade. She first realized that the messages which drive her crazy could be entertaining to others when she began performing stand-up comedy four years ago. On the assumption that the best material comes from your own life, she gathered some of her mother's most extreme messages and played them on stage, at venues including New York's top comedy clubs. Audiences consistently howled at her messages from Mom. Borkowsky, who is virtually never home, says she's totally dependent on her answering machine. Until launching her full-time comedy career, she lived the hectic life of an Executive Vice President and Creative Group Head at a major Manhattan advertising agency, where she won dozens of awards, including five Clios, three Cannes Festival lions, and an Emmy. Borkowsky now devotes herself exclusively to performing, speaking, and developing new comedy projects. Her television appearances include an interview with Matt Lauer on NBC's "Today" show and with Jane Clayson on the "CBS Early Show." Borkowsky has also appeared on MSNBC, "Lifetime Live," "Pure Oxygen," "Fox News Live," and the "WB Morning Show." Additionally, "National Enquirer TV" profiled her as "the comedian who's making a career out of listening to her mother." Her first CD has been played on hundreds of radio stations across the country, from New York's WPLJ to KRLA in LA and National Public Radio. Borkowsky has completed a 12-city tour for the "Amy's Answering Machine" book, appearing on shows from "Good Day Dallas" to "Today in New York," and her book immediately became a Denver Post bestseller. On Mother's Day 2002, her book held the #1 position on Amazon. Borkowsky continues to tour the country for comedy and speaking engagements and performed this year at the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal. She's especially excited about the release her new CD, "Amy's Answering Machine/Volume 2: More Messages from Mom."
