Dr. Shepard completed medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, where she graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honors Society. She then completed her psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins, where she researched suicide prevention in people with Parkinson's disease, contributed to textbook chapters, and helped develop an online curriculum on psychiatric treatments for medical students. She was awarded for excellence in commitment to the care of patients with psychiatric illness and served as Chief Resident in her final year of residency.

Her personal experiences have also played a huge role in shaping her passion. She is open about her struggles with anxiety, depression, OCD, and related psychiatric treatment in hopes of reducing the stigma of mental illness.

Dr. Shepard has been featured as a speaker for podcasts, keynote events, seminars, and educational lectures and workshops. She loves to talk about mental health, stigma reduction, wellness, self-improvement, and confidence. She has been quoted by Cosmopolitan, Salon, and Bustle, and is a regular contributor to Psychology Today. She has a large social media following on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube with approximately 300,000 followers across all platforms, and uses social media to educate about mental health and advocate for stigma reduction.
