Dr. Agnes Wainman is not your typical psychologist. After completing her PhD in clinical psychology, she began her own private practice where she began seeing overwhelmed, worried women as her primary client group. She began noticing a pattern; regardless of her clients' achievements, they were constantly feeling that they were not living up to expectations. Whether it was their own expectations, their partner's, their family's, their culture's or their society's, at every turn they felt like a big ol' failure.
She created the term Expectation Discrepancy Syndrome; the common experience of feeling that there is a gap between expectations and reality, and within that gap lives shame, judgement and never feeling good enough.
In order to treat this common experience, we need to screw expectations! She has helped her clients identify the unrealistic expectations that have created distress and replaced them with ones that allow every person to do life their own way.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Wainman has created and grown a group private practice in London, Ontario. She screwed expectations of what a therapy practice was supposed to look like and ditched the titles, the degrees on the wall and the stuffiness. She has created a space that has welcomed hundreds of clients and treated them like fellow human beings rather than patients with disorders.
Dr. Wainman has spoken to audiences of women who are looking to be the best version of themselves, entreprenuers on the verge of burn out, and college administrators looking to improve the well-being of their staff and students.
