M.S.
IL, USABOUT PAULETTE BERGOUNOUS
Paulette has had a history of turning her personal challenges into opportunities to help and encourage others. Now she shares the steps and strategies on how.
As a young child, she survived polio, a contagious disease. This never stopped her from achieving her personal and professional goals. Paulette holds a master's degree in Communication Disorders. She worked in school settings, private practice, Head Start and for the Department of Defense in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
In 2013, after over 40 years as a speech-language pathologist, she knew there was more for her to share and learn as she uncovered the details of her past and moved forward in her life.
Paulette understands the impact of losing function or having weakness in an arm or hand whether temporary or permanent. She wasn't prepared to lose the mobility and physical freedom she had worked so hard to regain. Post-Polio Syndrome had other plans for her. This led her to discover a mindset and skills needed to thrive whatever life throws at you.
In response to her sudden loss, Paulette authored "Navigating the ABCs of Personal Change" to present the concepts needed to move forward after experiencing sudden change. She also held workshops in Phoenix with that focus.
In 2018 Paulette moved to Sparks, NV and started her new business. One-Handed Solutions was established to reach out to thousands of individuals, who struggle being one-handed, whether permanent or temporary, or have significant weakness of an arm or hand. She is passionate in her mission to help them navigate daily living skills so they can be independent and safe.
Paulette published her most recent book "One-Handed Cooking Secrets". It is a reference book on products, strategies, and even some recipes to bring joy and safety back to cooking one-handed.
Paulette continues her support for eradicating polio worldwide and frequently speaks to Rotary International Clubs. She was recently honored to be selected as a member on the Board of Directors of Post-Polio Health International.
