Ryan Newman
Ryan Newman is a stock car driver who competes on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (formerly the Winston Cup Series). Over his career, he has raced for Roush Fenway Racing, Team Penske and Stewart-Haas Racing. In 2001, Newman raced in 15 Xfinity Series events (formerly the Busch Series) and won the NAPAonline.com 250. The next year, he recorded his first Winston Cup win at the New Hampshire 300 and claimed six pole positions, beating the rookie record that was previously held by Davey Allison. He was named the 2002 Sunoco Rookie of the Year over Jimmie Johnson and the 2003 Driver of the Year. Among his notable wins include the Daytona 500 (2008), 2013 Brickyard 400 (2013) and The Winston (2002)
Newman first found success in racing in the All-American Midget Series and United Midget Racing Association in 1993, where he won the championship and was named Rookie of the Year. Overall, he won two titles and 100 races and is a member of the Quarter Midget Hall of Fame. Newman was born in South Bend, Indiana and went to college at Purdue University. A stretch of road in St. Joseph County, Indiana was dedicated to Newman in 2008. In 2005, he was featured on the cover of the EA Sports game NASCAR SlimRacing.
