David M. Spindel Biography
Born August 31, 1941, David M. Spindel grew up in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. His father was a hardworking pharmacist and his mother an ardent schoolteacher. Spindel enjoyed photography as a hobby in high school and then decided to pursue his craft more seriously at Rochester Institute of Technology. He studied with Minor White, Ralph Hattersley, Dr. Richard Zakia, and Robert Bagby, Les Stroebel and graduated in 1964.

Post-graduation, he worked as an assistant for several photographers in New York City. He opened his own New York City studio in 1970. He was soon in demand by leading advertising agencies. The work poured in and his reputation grew steadily.

Assignments for Major League Baseball were the catalyst for the next body of work that evolved as Spindel's signature style. He went on to create numerous baseball posters and other products that sold worldwide and at The National Baseball Hall of Fame. He was commissioned for limited edition projects with: Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Duke Snider, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, and many others. His charitable work includes projects with Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto favorite charities. He has also photographed a variety of the icons of the entertainment field. Some of his favorite celebrities he became friends with were Kate Hepburn, Bette Davis, Chuck Connors, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson to mention a few.

Many young models (actresses) that David photographed at the beginning of his career went on to become well establish actors. To mention a few, Adriane Barbeau, Bette Midler, Gloria Hendry (the first black actress to be a James Bond woman in "Live and Let die.") and John Witherspoon. He has been in many TV shows and movies.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono hired Spindel to photograph their Double Fantasy recording session. Spindel's photographs have been published in numerous books, and licensed for Cd's, videos, documentary films, posters, and the Why Hunger/Bermuda Tapes App. David was deeply honored when Yoko reproduced his photographs of John on a CD cover and back cover titled "JOHN LENNON ACOUSTIC." There were also some additional photos in the booklet that accompanied this CD.

Amidst his still-life work, Spindel's developed his humorously interactive Rebus photographs, which caught the attention of American publishing companies. Following esteemed recognition for his baseball memorabilia photography, Abbeville Press signed Spindel to an eight-book publishing contract for the Major League Memories Series. The books are filled with hundreds of photographs of memorabilia of eight major league teams. The New York Yankees, The Dodgers both Brooklyn and Los Angeles, the Giants both New York and San Francisco, the Boston Red Socks, the Chicago Cubs, The St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and the Baltimore Orioles.

Spindel continues to produce photographs for an impressive list of clients and has been featured on a variety of TV shows on major networks both in New York and Phoenix Arizona. He has been interviewed by numerous publications promoting his photography. His photographs and Limited Editions decorate corporate offices of numerous baseball stadiums, are on exhibit in galleries internationally, and available for private sale. His work continues to be licensed for a myriad of unique products worldwide. Just recently he licensed 5 collages for puzzles. His favorite one was the creation of a collage on the career of John Wayne. The title being "Remembering the Duke." The other four were images of his football and baseball collages of memorabilia.

This past August David negotiation with a company in England to use his video tape that was filmed during a photography assignment were" Marla Maples" was the model. Donald's Trumps second wife.

Just recently, Mr. Spindel finished creating an entire new website of images not on his current website.www.spindelvisions.com. This new website contains a variety of photographs created over his 55+ year career of what he considers his fun photos taken on trips and photographs he just created for himself. These images that can be used to create a variety of licensed products. He has enjoyed licensing his photographs over the course of his successful career. These photographs are of Arizona, national parks (Bryce and Zion), food, London, Paris, Alaska, butterflies, New York, flowers, Italy and collages created on his computer of a variety of subjects. The computer opened up a new area for David to use his creative talents to produce unique photographs. In addition, there are some photographs of products that have already been licensed and have his images on them such as posters, porcelain plates, book covers, album covers, and numerous puzzles. He is most proud of the movie posters that have his photographs on them. To mention a few of the posters, Broadway Danny Rose, Tattoo, The Producers and his favorite and most famous poster "PLATOON."

In early January 2019 David was contact by American Art Images of Brighton MN. He signed an agreement on February 7, 2019 to market his photographs all over the world.

Spindel is married to Barbara, his terrific wife of 54+ years and they reside in Anthem, Arizona since 2004 with their dog Sasha. David says she deserves a special award for putting up with him and his craziness. They have two wonderful children, Jeffrey and Joyce.

As Regis Philbin said on more than one occasion..." David, is a bit eccentric but you have to put up with him because he is an absolute genius."

How I started in Photography

A variety of people influenced my decision to be a photographer. My 6th grade school teacjer was the bigest influence. Other people that influenced me were my brother, an aunt and a few other people.  I have great stories about all of them.

As a way of showing my appreciation for the enjoyment I received from their movies, I've sent them one of my framed photographs that represented a roll they played. Giving Back

I have always belive it it better to givet than to receivie. My parents told me this over the years ofmy youth.  I have donated my art work to numerous organization and charities for their live and silent autions. They have raised more money that I could ever give. I haved dozens of than you notes from these organization. As a result of this donatiiong I have met some great people.
