certified virtual presenter

My name is Lowell Aplebaum and I am the CEO and Strategy Catalyst for Vista Cova.

I am a connector. I am a facilitator of community. I identify strategy gaps and collaboratively build solutions that provide impact for tomorrow's needs. I bring people together. I embrace the mission and vision as the heart of an organization. I am honored that I get to work with those that drive to that vision.

I am in tireless pursuit of innovation and evolution for greater impact.

I have a B.A. in sociology from Columbia University and M.A. in informal education, with a focus on experiential approaches. I ask challenging questions. I listen to your stakeholder voices. I weave their individual visions into stronger collective solutions. In over 15 years working inside non-profits, I created strategy and drove exponential results working with leaders in all 50 states and across 6 continents. I understand that every community has a unique culture that, when recognized and honored, strengthens the organization.

I am a passionate volunteer that can often be found giving time to the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE). I also regularly give platelets to the American Red Cross (so should you!), serve as the Chair of the CAE Commission (the certification for the association industry), and am on the organizing committee for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Brewers Ball.

At home, during the day you can find me working on lightsaber construction with my son and two daughters, and in the evening leading beer tastings for friends and family.

I am an organizer of people. I build communities. I am service-oriented, believing that the good we do unto others will come back to us in time.

Outside of my passion for my munchkins at home, there is nothing I love more than seeing an organization, striving to do good, actually achieve its best. I am the catalyst that helps make that achievement a reality.

Networking Evolution: Building Stronger Relationships

Our associations may produce the highest quality programs, products and services, but what makes us different from any retail store is the community of colleagues any member can find.  What we call networking is the cement that holds together the bricks of our non-dues revenue lines of value.  Yet, for all associations tout as being the 'professional home' for their industry, this most often means putting volunteers and members alike in a room with wine and cheese with...

Associations Can Do Better

Together we will explore how to deepen Board Member connections.  How to create micro-brain trusts for volunteers, members, and industry stakeholders.  How to create personal conversation starters for 5 or 5,000.  We will learn about these approaches, we will try them, and we will analyze/evaluate them.

We all want to see a deeper loyalty to our organizations from our volunteers and our members - that starts with setting in place a dynamic...

Member Retention: Creating the Member Experience

The decision to remain a member comes down to more than the quality of the product or program purchased - it is about the experience that surrounds the interaction.  The value opportunities you create for your member should be expressed not as a list on a brochure, but as targeted solutions that can help them wherever they may be in their career. This session will challenge you to think about new approaches to create an experience that will deepen the connection with (and increase the...

Strategic Planning: Best Practices and Next Practices

Organizations will invest heavily in volunteer and staff time and resources to compose a strategic plan that creates a meaningful organization vision, and then sits on a shelf.  This session will start with a review of the comprehensive components associations are considering when composing their strategic plan.  We will then explore some of the supplemental strategic and tools used to ensure that the plan becomes part of the everyday operations of the organization - tools such as...
