Matthew Brandt
M.A.
VA, USMy story of accountability and resiliency began in the East Room of the White House at the hands of Nancy Reagan; the First Lady of the United States. A member of the elite U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, at 18, I was assigned to President Ronald Reagan's White House Honor Guard.
After a military career and nearly 30 years in law enforcement, I was diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD.) Today, I'm proud to be a veteran of the United States Navy and an American Police Officer, though my struggles are very real.
My personal and professional life has revolved around dealing with death and traumatic events from an early age. A brother that tragically died when I was five-years old, to more than 125 death investigations, and a massive school massacre. The most significant however, came in 1983 when I participated in the arrival of 241 flagged draped coffins of Marines and Sailors, killed in the terrorist bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. This event set into motion a lifetime of navigating death from every angle. Brother, son, team member, manager, supervisor, and even senior leader. Lessons well learned and now ready to be passed along.
As a leader, I've learned how accountability and resiliency can make the difference in an organization's success or failure. In a team being a top producer with energized and excited employees who are excited to come to work. I've also experienced what it feels like to be responsible for not one, but two of my direct line employees choosing suicide as their way forward, one while speaking to me on the telephone.
Lessons learned as to how important it is to understand your authority to act, taking appropriate and timely action, and holding others accountable. These experiences provided me the greatest set of leadership skills. A simple set of principles which are easily teachable and transferable to others at any level of your organization.
Positive accountability and resiliency are my guidepost to changing behavior and organizational culture at the basic level with the exponential return of investment. Leaders that can become comfortable having difficult conversation will become trust leaders to everyone around them. Anyone who will have complete trust in their leaders, will also be willing to give 100% of their effort to your mission. And it may just save someone's life.
I promise an inspirational, energy filled, emotionally driven presentation or training event that will ignite your team to positive action today! Learn how to be a trusting leader that instills accountability and resiliency in everyone around you. At home and at work.
A member of the National Speakers Association and Global Speakers Federation, I have spoken and provided training to audiences large and small across the globe. From Europe and the Middle East to the South Pacific and across the United States.
