Mike is a popular media personality. In his 30-plus-year career, Mike has represented hundreds of companies, both locally and nationally, as an on-camera spokesman, narrator, emcee, and speaker. He has performed as an actor in numerous corporate films and videos, and was named Best Actor at the Iowa Film Awards for a dramatic role. Mike made his stage debut in his 60s, in the Grandview College production of "The Sunshine Boys." He is also an accomplished writer-producer of radio and television commercials, as well as films and videos. His hobbies are music, movies, golf, travel, and poetry. Mike married his Norwalk High School sweetheart, Gail, an artist and a volunteer for H.C.I. Hospice Care Services and Planned Parenthood. They have a son, Dr. Nicholas J. Pace, a former basketball player at the University of Northern Iowa, now a professor of educational leadership at his alma mater. Mike and Gail live in West Des Moines and are the proud grandparents of two teenage grandchildren.

Mike is an amateur photographer with a deep and abiding love for the natural landscape. He says, "Never the same moment to moment, this dynamic flux of light, color, and form reveals its subtle beauty when we are still, attentive, and receptive enough to experience it. Photography has become a medium for me to experience the landscape on a more open and intimate basis. It is an endeavor that causes me to move slowly, stop often, and to simply experience what is before me. Composition is my response to that experience; it evolves out of a desire to capture and share that ephemeral beauty with another. Being an amateur has afforded me the luxury of being able to fail often and fail miserably, yet to still be deeply thankful for those times when I feel that I may have succeeded. There is then the possibility of sharing with you what nature has shared with me."
