Ettore Cipollone
Ettore Cipollone lost his sight during a high school fight when he and his long-time friend got into an argument during a science class. They both turned against each other as hostile words turned into a challenge to fight after school. Pride and peer pressure were so great, that they found it difficult to back away from their fight. That afternoon in a local park, the boys gathered around to witness Ettore receiving a punch to his eye that eventually caused him to go totally blind. No one tried to stop the fight. No one was brave or bold enough to warn the two boys to think about what they were going to do.
Ettore remembers this time very well and wishes that he could turn back the clock and not have caved in to peer pressure and his pride. Not only did he lose his sight, but his whole life was completely turned upside-down and his new fight was for his independence and the dream that he would one day work on a ship as a radio operator, was completely crushed.
Ettore's teenage years and growing up was filled with frustration, anger and depression at times. Making friends and pursuing a normal life seemed virtually impossible for Ettore.
Even though now Ettore has turned his life around to a positive one, he has to work hard towards independence and life choices which are very difficult at times because being blind.
Despite Ettore's very disadvantaged start to life during teenage years, he has worked in a variety of roles in factories, telephonist in a high-pressure job and a public speaker for a major blindness agency. In this role, he has generated thousands of dollars in revenue, as well as wills and bequests from generous donors towards his blindness agency, due to Ettore's hard work and tenaciousness.
Turning to music during teenage years, Ettore took to drums like a duck to water. But this was not without its challenges.
Ettore's message is one of being brave, bold and think big about what you want to achieve in life. Most of all, not succumbing to peer pressure and pride by being bold and brave in speaking up for what is right. Ettore would like to help young people in being brave, to speak out against violence that is destructive not only to others but to one's self. Peer pressure is so strong in schools today causing many problems that lead to young people experiencing great suffering, pain and even sometimes death.
Finally, Ettore loves to play the drums and he has turned his life into a positive by showing his talents and talking about his lovely family and what joy they have brought him. Ettore is happily married to his wife Jennifer of thirty-seven years and three grown-up children who often turn to him for life's advice as a go-to guy. Ettore is a great friend to his wife and children and together they have built up a solid family unit. Ettore treats his home as a sanctuary where his family can shut the door from the outside world and has created a safe space environment.
Prevention techniques are Ettore's personal tips in dealing with this major problem. Which includes being brave, bold and thinking big.
