Rod Biermann
Esq.
NY, USAfter taking an acting class in my third year in college, I was hooked. Immediately after graduation, I packed up my car and drove out west to Los Angeles. Leaving behind my small hometown of Sterling, Illinois, I could hardly wait to follow my dream and become an actor. I had no contacts in the entertainment industry, no idea how the business worked, couldn't act my way out of a paper bag, and my only credit was a small college play.
However, I came armed with determination, courage and a fluid strategy. In a short time and in the face of constant rejection, I was lucky enough to land substantial roles in major studio films including director Michael Bay's war drama Pearl Harbor, and live action/animated comedy The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. I also starred/guest starred in numerous sitcoms, dramas, Movies of the Week, TV pilot episodes, national commercials and had a recurring role on the Emmy award-winning CBS soap-opera The Young & the Restless.
Yet my early thirties brought a new perspective to my life. I got married and became the proud father of two daughters. My life was no longer just about me. It became vital that I have more control of my life and destiny, in order to be support my family and be a solid role model for my children. It was evident that I needed to make a career transition.
Utilizing a very specific strategy, I transitioned from an actor in Los Angeles to relocating to New York City to enter law school and become a lawyer. This transition was filled with enormous challenges and seemingly insurmountable obstacles, but I was determined to succeed and had the strategy to get me where I wanted to go.
I am now an employment law litigator and Practice Group Head of the Employment Law Group at Dorf & Nelson LLP, representing both employers and employees, including executives, partners, professionals and talent, in all industries and professions, in a wide variety of employment related claims and issues. I truly love what I do.
Making this career transition was not easy. I was constantly fighting doubt, my own insecurities and a seemingly endless array of hurdles. But equipped with the proper strategy, I was able to successfully make the transition and take control of my life and destiny.
I look forward to sharing my story and my strategy to help inspire, encourage and guide individuals who are considering a career to a more fulfilling life.
