Darice Grzybowski

Biographical Summary: Darice M. Grzybowski, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA is President and Founder, H.I.Mentors, LLC and is a certified AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Trainer and Ambassador.

Darice is a registered health information administrator (RHIA) who holds a masters degree in clinical data management from DePaul University and is a Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association. Prior to establishing H.I.Mentors, Darice worked from 1999-2005 as the National Manager for Industry Relations (Marketing) for 3M Corporation's Health Information Systems division, the country's leading HIM HIS software provider. Darice spent 15 plus years of her career in hospital/HIM administration, consulting, and teaching where she still holds adjunct faculty appointments with the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences, Northwestern University Kellogg MBA Program, and DeVry University Online.

Darice is a recognized speaker, author, mentor, and leader in the HIM community and has held a variety of volunteer and elected positions including Past President of the Illinois Health Information Management Association and as a team leader and participant in eHM workforces such as Computer Assisted Coding and Electronic Document Imaging. Darice is a sought after lecturer on topics from revenue cycle management to electronic health records and has published over 50 papers and spoken at all major health association conferences across the country. She sits on the editorial board of HCPro's Medical Records Briefing and is a regular guest columnist and editorial members for Electronic Health Records Briefing. She has provided advisory testimony to Federal and State government agencies, trained Joint Commission physician reviewers, and hosted a health care summit to the Honorable Secretary of HHS Michael Leavitt in his former role as Utah State Governor when he was developing the Smart Site Coding Initiative.

Darice is an honored recipient of multiple awards for innovation in health information practice and EHR advancement. Some of these awards include: AHIMA (Triumph) Professional Achievement Awarded (1994), Advance for HI Professional of the Year Award (1998), CAHIMA (1993) and ILHIMA (2005) Distinguished Member Awards, AHIMA Best Practice Aware (1999), and induction into the Manchester Who's Who of International Business roster for her work in international health care technology marketing. She believes strongly and is committed to guiding organizations, students, and staff to reach their highest potential in health information management.

Darice has spoken at numerous conferences, professional associations, government and corporate meetings over the past 30 years. Topics have included; HIM best practices, electronic health records, clinical documentation improvement, workflow performance data analytics, strategic marketing, and revenue cycle process improvement.

Darice is a member of the Illinois and National Speaker's Association and is a popular keynote speaker and subject matter expert. Her style skillfully blends 'in the trenches' case study examples with real-life hints and best practice tips. Darice is focused on delivering proactive information with actionable steps that enable CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement), HIM (Health Information Management), RCM (Revenue Cycle Management), IT (Information Technology) and other critical departments to meet the battle-line challenges of the healthcare continuum.

Previous engagements have included presentations at regional and national HIMSS, AHIMA, HFMA conventions, as well as other major conferences and international meetings. Darice has also presented in online interviews, webinars and numerous vendor users group meetings and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the School of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences.
