Andrew Tarvin

I recently attended the ColdFusion Summit, and Andrew was a speaker at one of the sessions. His session was not only hilarious and entertaining, but very applicable to management of people in this day in age. Motivating team members to maximize their output for the company while enriching and fulfilling their own goals at the same time is a difficult task. Andrew's insights certainly will provide some keys to help make that task more achievable.

I found Andrew through his Ted Talk, joined one of his Humor Writing Workshop and was blown away. Andrew has a unique dash of magic to make humor become a mix of science and art that everyone can easily understand and start creating their own piece of arts. I am excited to apply these techniques and bring more laughter into the office, but most importantly, I realize I own a pair of glasses made of humor that I can put on at anytime to see the world!

I attended Drew's class "Think Fast, Be Bold: Improvise your Way to Confidence" through Simon Sinek, Inc. The activities helped me to get more comfortable with the uncomfortable, get ideas as to how to adapt in a new situation and confidently deliver my message even when I am not “fully prepared.” as he calls it to improvise! The class was fun and enjoyable. What I experienced has encouraged me to continue practicing with friends as well as having fun. I am discovering more on his website...... so much more to learn. Andrew is spontaneous, has a sense of humor, and can help one learn how to improvise while having fun. I would highly recommend his classes.

Andrew's session at the VSAI was an impressive one. He brought out that anyone can effortlessly bring in the desired humour in their talk. He also shared a framework of how he goes about creating humour. While it sounded good, I had a different problem altogether. I am already funny, and the content I speak about is quite a serious topic, "Maximize Profits". I did not want my audience to take in the humour and forget the serious part of the action they needed to take on their numbers. Andrew patiently listened and immediately taught me how to create the "association humour" and end it up with a call to action so that the talk is not dull and yet entertaining and educating at the same time. I am grateful for his timely suggestion as I was in a fix to tame my humour, and this came in as a timely saviour for me. Thanks, Andrew!

Across two companies and over 10 years, I have hired Andrew Tarvin to run his Humor that Works trainings a number of times- and my colleagues/students consistently agree, it’s one of the most fun and rewarding trainings you could participate in. Most recently, Drew ran a virtual ‘Find your Funny’ workshop for the Employee Resource Groups at Unity. This is a group of underrepresented colleagues and allies. Andrew customized the content and delivery for these colleagues that too often carry extra burden in times of change, and may need some extra reminders on how to employ humor to uplift their day to day engagements. However, it was also practical- providing tools to employ humor, engage joy and connect on a more personal level to each other and in our work, beyond the workshop. Drew's keynote at Ignite Leadership Conference was one of the most effective, funny, and impactful keynotes I've ever seen; and as a facilitator and executive coach, I've attended many events and heard many presentations. His novel ability to apply humor to challenging workplace culture dynamics would be an asset to any team or organization that hired him as a speaker or consultant.

Humour is such a subjective thing but Andrew's fundamental understanding of what makes it so powerful and how to use it in business certainly helped me solidify my thought processes. I'm now more confident developing content that will, hopefully, tickle a funny bone or two.

Andrew spoke to my Vistage group earlier this year. He proved to be highly knowledge about the role humor plays in creating a great corporate culture while providing useful tips on how to be funny - but appropriate - in today's workplace. Based on that, I hired him to help me add sizzle and humor to an otherwise boring presentation for a group of senior executives I had been invited to speak to. Andrew only needed four sessions to completely transform the content and my delivery of it. When I looked at the video tape of the session a few days later I was thrilled to see that I was relaxed and confident and was able to keep the audience engaged throughout.
