EXPERIENCE
An Air Force retiree who spent 30 years serving his country as an Inflight Refueling Operator and Command Chief Master Sergeant and learned a thing or two about leading , how leaders are developed (continuously) and how to cultivate the courage to lead when present day realities crumble around you.
During his time in the Air Force, he deployed in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM in 1991 and then again supporting Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM in 2004. He cut his teeth on tactical and operational leadership while conducting air refueling operations over the skies of Iraq and Afghanistan, making real-time life or death decisions as a member of a command and control function, as well as leading airmen supporting daily air-refueling and reconnaissance operations.
In 2005 he was selected as a Command Chief and assigned to the 22d Air Refueling Wing, McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, where he advised the commander on all issues concerning the health, welfare, and professional developmentof over 2,500 enlisted personnel and their families supporting one of the Air Force’s three “Super Tanker Wings.”
In 2007 he was selected as the 13th Air Force Command Chief, a strategic level position, where he advised the commander on morale, welfare and professional development, of over 8,000 enlisted personnel supporting operations on Hawaii, Guam, and Japan. As Director, Pacific Air Forces Enlisted Development Program he was instrumental in coordinating and co-leading with the Royal Malaysian Air Force an unprecedented 16 nation senior enlisted leader conference to establish networks, best practices, and to benchmark leadership development programs. He negotiated an unparalleled initiative for Air Force senior managers to attend the Singapore Air Force Leadership and Management Academy while driving a 50% increase in Japanese, Singapore and Philippine Air Force technicians to attend US professional military education academies. As a passionate proponent for developing tomorrow’s national and international leaders, he developed strong bonds with senior leaders representing the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal New Zealand Air Force, Royal Malaysian Air Force, Philippine Air Force, Japan Air Self Defense Force, and Korean Air Force and was asked to take part in an unprecedented trip to China to discuss enlisted professional and leadership development. Finally, he was designated the Senior Enlisted Leader to the Commander Operation Deep Freeze/Joint Forces Antarctica where he received a first-hand look at “penguin leadership.”
His final assignment occurred in 2009 when he was selected as the United States Air Force Academy Command Chief Master Sergeant, where he advised the Superintendent on morale and welfare issues and guided the training, professional development and readiness initiatives for more than 850 enlisted personnel. He was also called upon to take part in the leadership development of 4,400 cadets preparing them to become commissioned officers leading Air Force airmen. Finally, he served on the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Enlisted Board of Directors establishing training, professional development, and readiness policies effecting over 275,000 enlisted airmen Air Force wide.
