Interpretations of Nursing Past and Present

Audiences interact with historic nurses to unveil where nursing has come from and gives though provoking comments on where nursing will be in the future. This living history format combined with current day comparison's is ideal for nursing groups as well as healthcare professionals. With her vast knowledge of historic nurses such as Florence Nightingale (Mother of modern nursing), Clara Barton(Red Cross). Andrea portrays the nursing experience of the past, while dressed in period clothing and utilizing medical equipment and other period items. As Andrea brings these women to life, she emphasizes the concepts and methods that these founders of modern nursing developed; while identifying and comparing how their ideas have impacted nursing and society from past to present. Her interactive interpretations engage small to large groups in a thought-provoking style and can be tailored to meet the venue's needs. This allows her to entertain and educate all audiences, including professional groups, classrooms, and the general public.

Andrea has been a nurse over 30 years working in a variety of settings: from Intensive Care to Long Term Care, to educating nurses at the community college. Andrea has learned to walk with her patients so much so, that she literally is able to walk in the historic nurses shoes. Her knowledge in holistic health concepts is vast and well researched. She also has a love of nursing and the overarching direction of the career path. These interactive programs present our collective history and gives rise to discussing where are we going as a profession. Historic founding nurses are used as a platform to remind current nurses and general audiences where we have come from and stimulate a discussion to preventive health areas not fully developed as the founding nurses had planned. Stimulating discussions increase the creativity for the future role of nursing.
