It's about time we recognize just how tangled we all are in the web of life and our role in strengthening those bonds to nature and each other if we are going to save this planet.

Do you ever feel that life and work can be a real zoo? For me, it is—literally. I work at a zoo nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Utah. I am the Director of Human Resources, an experienced HR professional with a legal background as an attorney. At mid-career, I decided that it would be more fun to get another degree, rather than buy a red sports car. So I enrolled in college once again and earned a master's in science and technology, majoring in environmental science with a focus on sustainability issues. I have a thing for our planet and would like to see it do well. It's about time we recognize just how tangled we all are in the web of life and our role in strengthening those bonds to nature and each other. For the first time in history, HR has an opportunity to step-up and beyond its traditional role as an evolved personnel department to becoming a significant leader in saving the world. How? By doing what it does best when at its best—building, nurturing, guiding, and leading organizational culture.
