Founder of Famous PEOPLE Players

"Through one dream, a thousand dreams unfold".

Diane Lynn Dupuy, CM recipient of the Order of Canada is the President and Founder of the internationally renowned Famous PEOPLE Players, a professional black-light theatre troupe consisting mainly of PEOPLE who are developmentally challenged. Diane founded the company in 1974 with the belief that the disabled must be integrated into society.

This alone says a lot about the troupe as they continue to perform with excellence from the Great White Way on Broadway to the Great Wall of China.

The inspiring story of Famous PEOPLE Players was featured as a CBS Movie-of-the-week called Special People. Famous PEOPLE Players have appeared on numerous television shows such as Phil Donahue, Good Morning America, Regis and Kathie Lee, Adrienne Clarkson Presents, and the Emmy Award winning documentary A Little Like Magic narrated by Ann Margret. Most recently, the players were featured in a one-hour special that aired on CBC and A&E Breakfast with the Arts - Black Light Dreams and Aaron Spelling's television series 7th Heaven. As well, Famous PEOPLE Players created the puppets and performed for Roll Play, a television series for children that was nominated for a Gemini Award.

Diane's work, so extraordinary on both the artistic and humanitarian levels, has led her to be the recipient of many awards. She was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1982, and was named Woman of the Year by B'nai B'rith Women in 1981. She received the first Ernest C. Manning Award for Merit in 1984 and was the first Canadian to receive the Library of Congress Award. She is also the recipient of the Vanier Award and honourary degrees from the Universities of Toronto, Windsor, Calgary, Brock and Trent (Peterborough).

She is the author of three best selling books, Dare to Dream, Throw Your Heart Over The Fence and Daring to Dream. As well, Diane recently published her first children's book, The Little Girl Who Did...WHAT?!! and The Teacher & the Soul.

In 2003, Diane was invited by friend Dr. Deepak Chopra to Puerto Rico where she spoke as a panelist, alongside past Vice President Al Gore, at the Alliance for New Humanity. This conference fostered Diane's appreciation for the environment and gave her resources to continue her mission to enhance the environment within each of us.

Like the late great Annie Sullivan, Diane Dupuy has used will power and determination to bring out the best in all who join Famous PEOPLE Players.
