
Edward Young
Edward Young is a 1994 graduate of The Wichita State University. He has over 20 years in sales and management, including retail grocery, electric wholesale and plumbing wholesale. He and his wife have owned a janitorial and floor care company since 2002, that is still going strong. Blending engergized humor, dynamic presentation skills audience participation, and touching personal stories; Ed entertains, challenges, motivates, inspires and creates belief that anyone can overcome obstacles and create the life they desire.
Ed and Deborah have three children, two daughters and a son. The son; Toby, was adopted out of foster care. He is a victim of Shaken Baby Syndorme. Ed talks about the process of adoption, the need for Foster Parents, and the amazaing inspiring journey of watching a child that was not supposed to talk or hear, explode into a life of limitless possiblities surrounded by a forever family and hope for a better tomorrow.
As an entreprenuer, Ed talks about the joy and the incredible pain of growing a business while keeping your dignity and sanity. How the temptation to use family and friends should be avoided, tax issues, and methods of sales and growth. As well as how to develop lasting relationships, not just revenue.
Edward is the first person to be kicked off a Eudora High School sports team for lack of ability. The basketball team had a record of 0-43 over a period of 2-1/2 years and was listed in Sports Illustrated as one of the worst High School teams in the United States. Turning that dubious honor into motivation and listening to his father's words, "Master the basics, they'll lead you to greatness." two years later for the same coach who told him "You are a waste of my time" he played varsity point guard. Mastering the basics has led Ed to the floor of Allen Field House, home of the University of Kansas Jayhawks. As a tutor of a few players he was able to play pick up games with the team. In a humors story about the internal tapes we all have playing he recounts how mastering the basics and not quiting can lead anyone to incredible experiences only dreamed of.
Edward is also a recovering alcoholic. He tells of his struggles to overcome the addiction, how his wife challenged him to believe, and the methodolgy he eventually used to win the battle.
Edward is a memeber of Toastmasters International, and a member of Lions Club. In 2011, out of approximately 30,000 contestants world wide, he was a Semi-Finalist in Toasmaters International World Championship of Public Speaking; finishing in the top 80 in the world.
