Dan Pope has been an Anchor Meteorologist the Television Broadcasting business for 31 years, and has spoken over 700 times as a Keynote, Emcee, school weather presenter, and science/weather expert. Dan is an all around entertaining and positive motivational speaker. He is passionate about the weather and the science behind it and sharing his excitement (with a little humor at times) with his many audiences.
Most recently, Mr. Pope has coined the term, "Climate Pendulum" to describe the changing of the world climate. With the recent warming of the Earth's atmosphere, he has put Climate Change into a more understandable perspective. Rather than producing extravagant headlines like, "Himalayan Glaciers will be gone by 2035", or the "Arctic Ice Cap will melt in our Generation". His Keynote speech on "The Climate Pendulum" puts the whole Global Warming scenario into a different mindset and perspective. He encourages his audience to engage in preparations they can make now--but helps them realize that "panic is only in the headlines". Never the less, Dan will admonish his audience to engage in greener technologies, the use of intermediary fuels that are more "Greenhouse Friendly"; and why it is important to convert from fossil fuels to power the economy; to other possibly yet unrealized power sources. He knows that building the power grid, bringing on wind turbine and solar panel technologies, and the ability to store the energy in power cells--to be distributed when demand is highest--is, well, more than two decades away, and extremely expensive. Mr. Pope will share some of his expertise in where more realistic power generation should come from in the short term, and where he believes the "Climate Pendulum" is going--where the impacts will be--and what we can do to help mitigate as much of the "Greenhouse" issue now, rather than later. Let's not panic about Greenhouse Warming, but we should do something, rather than nothing.
Dan the weatherman; as he has been called over and over again, is a "Certified Broadcast Meteorologist", credentialed by the American Meteorological Society. Only 3% of all Television Weathercasters nationwide have attained this level of achievement. As a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, he is expected to become the Television News "Station Scientist". Thus, Mr. Pope has studied and become highly competent in Geography, Geology, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Tsunamis, Climatology and Climate Change, Pollution and Inversions, Severe Weather Forecasting, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Severe Winter Storms and the necessary preparedness that should be employed for each scenario. He also has a very strong understanding of the Sun and Earth relationship, and of Astronomy and the Cosmos. The Hubble Telescope and the photos it has brought us, bring Mr. Pope to his knees with amazement. Photos from the surface of Mars and Saturn's moon Titan are some of Dan's favorites. He loves Astronomy and shares this enthusiasm in one of his of his many different Keynote speeches.
He also has some fantastic personal stories of success; failure, family challenges and how he was able to pull himself up each time someone, some company, some unforeseen obstacle has knocked him down. Having a Bi-Polar son, he and his wife Diane have learned the extraordinary difficulties that are a result of raising a child with tremendous challenges. Hundreds of therapy sessions, years of abuse and using tough love (even on a Bi-Polar Child) have paid off. His story, combined with the reality that he needed a serious back fusion surgery in 2011--and the courage it took for him to face his first nights ever in the hospital--are part of his motivational and inspirational speech. The extreme pain of the surgery has given Dan a new perspective on life, and why it is so worth living. His positive outlook and understanding that everyone has a personal challenge (and that no one escapes it), allows him to bring his audience up, give them hope; and encourages them to face those challenges with resolution and fortitude. Dan has seen the bottom--and crawled to the top. He can touch an audience in a way others can't, because they haven't been there "yet".
