Sourena Vasseghi
Sourena Vasseghi has lived an extraordinary life. He has enjoyed the fruits of achievement many others can only dream of; he is an author, inspirational speaker, award-winner, businessman, son, brother, and loyal friend.
Sourena Vasseghi has lived an extraordinary life, but is driven by the one thing he struggles to have—the ordinary. Confined to a wheelchair and trapped within his own body, Sourena lives his life always looking for the proverbial next step; the severe cerebral palsy which limits his movement does not diminish his will or his determination to enrich the future—not only for himself, but for others.
His personal quest is to grasp the ordinary, but his disability prohibits him from doing the simple things many take for granted, such as hopping in a car to meet up with friends, taking a walk on a beach, brushing his teeth without help, or getting up to get a glass of water. Sourena has had a lot of dreams in his life, but really what he’s always wanted are the things most of us don’t even think about.
Together with his speaking partner Rich Finley, Sourena conveys his message of how "the ordinary" should be a gift that is embraced and passed along to enrich the lives of not only ourselves, but everyone around us. He believes that the sweet spot of life is not necessarily our major accomplishments but really “the little things” in life, such as giving one’s spouse a kiss on the cheek in the morning or calling a friend; moments in life that are not celebrated for being as truly remarkable as they are. After all, without the ordinary...there would be no extraordinary.
Sourena was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the UCLA Medical Center when he was two years old. As a result of his disability, he quickly learned in life that if he was going to make a difference in the world, the kind of difference he truly wanted to make, he would need to create his own unique path. As a well-read and business savvy young man he graduated from USC in May 2001. Sourena opened his own marketing firm and after being inundated with countless requests to share his wonderful insight on living, he wrote the award-winning book “Love Your Life and It Will Love You Back.”
He has been recognized with several accolades for the professional and personal successes he’s achieved. Sourena won the Indie Excellence Award for Best Business Book of 2008 for Love Your Life and It Will Love You Back. In 2009, he was named Westlake Today magazine’s inaugural Man of the Year, and was honored with Looking Beyond’s Soaring Spirit Award in 2010. Most recently, he was invited to speak at Tedx Pasadena on October 22, 2011.
Sourena’s passion, along with Rich’s warmth and quick wit, have inspired people throughout the country to think about their own lives and embrace what they are given, work towards their dreams, and to learn and grow from both our failures and successes.
