Lashan Browning began her career under the mentoring of Spike Lee (1990-1994). Her productions credits include Spike's popular Nike and Levi's commercials, as well as "The Autobiography of Malcolm X." Some other films include "Waiting to Exhale," "Sleepers," "Flirting with Disaster" and "Great Expectations," to name a few, where she would continue to be trained about the business of filmmaking with mentors Ezra Swerdlow, Barry Levinson and Peter Giuliano. She and director Spike Lee produced an acclaimed short film directed by Lee Davis called "A Gut Feeling," starring Tony and Emmy award-winner actor/producer Ruben Santiago-Hudson, actor Thomas Byrd and poet/actor Saul Williams (1994-1999).

 

In 1999, Gayle King, Editor-at-Large of O, The, O Magazine was instrumental in Lashan becoming an integral part of the start up of Oxygen Media, led by Oprah Winfrey, Geraldine Laybourne, and Carsey-Werner-Mandabach. In 2000 Lashan was one of the 10 producers selected to attend a 3 week digital video bootcamp conducted by Michael Rosenblum, a world leader in video journalism and the complete rethinking of how television is made and controlled. She went on to shoot (sans ENG crew), produce, and direct compelling stories for Oxygen's documentary short film block on contemporary icons for such as, author/poet Dr. Maya Angelou, activist Cheri Honkala, multi-platinum artist Missy Elliot, and Miriam Makeba to name a few.

 

In 2003, Lashan became one of two principals of RedMoxie Productions, Inc. she Executive Produced and wrote a Lifetime Intimate Portrait about multi-Grammy winner Missy Elliot, a documentary telling her story from abuse as a child, to her rise to musical fame, the highest rated Intimate Portrait history. As Principal of Red Moxie, she created and Executive Produced various shows, such as "Hair Trauma," which focused on celebrity hairstylist Ellin LaVar and her siblings who help run her upper west side salon. The show debuted on WE in October 2006 and entered its second season in December 2007. In 2002, she began Executive Producing "Ride with Funkmaster Flex," the first show of its kind to focus on the "gear head" aspect of car customizing and the stars who love them. "Ride" aired for 2 seasons on Spike TV. Internationally, "Ride" can be seen in over 20 countries internationally. After "Ride," Lashan went on to Executive Produce two seasons of "All Muscle," for ESPN2 a car show which focuses on sports stars and their muscle cars and 4 seasons of "Car Wars," a reality/competition show.

 

Some projects currently in development/or series under Lashan's full-service production company NOLA banner: "Next to Famous," a docu-soap involving women who are married or were married to famous men, "Gang House," in co-production with Peabody award winning filmmaker Marc Levin, an intervention show where gang members voluntarily seek redemption, "The Yardley's," a family business who runs their multi-million dollar teak plantation between Bucks County in Pennsylvania and Costa Rica, "The Teasha Bivins Home Project," which shows you how to live simply and "The Farai Chideya America Project," which follows people as they begin to heal their relationships."
