Ornge is an organization of people who help people. But Ornge's philosophy of compassion, collaboration and innovation have been instrumental to its success. "It's not just about compassion to our clients, but to our colleagues at work each day. It's not just about collaboration with each other, but with the some 250 hospitals and or communities we serve. It's about innovation. Everyday we ask why, and do what is needed to make our service better."

In 1996 he was appointed Medical Director of Air Ambulance Programs at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre where he founded the first formal education program for Critical Care paramedics and the largest mobile patient simulator program in Canada.
From 1996 and 1999 he worked with the Ontario government to expand aero medical transport in the province and spearheaded a change in patient management that allowed for the direct airlift of trauma patients from anywhere in Ontario to trauma centres.
Dr. Mazza is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine who has advised governments on a variety of transport and emergency medicine-related matters, including critical care transformation, pediatric critical care transport and emergency room overcrowding. In April 2005, he was also appointed Strategic Lead for Provincial Transport Medicine within the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
