
Margaret Hoelzer
Margaret Hoelzer is living proof of her belief that if you put your mind to it, anything is possible. Overcoming a childhood of sexual abuse, Hoelzer has risen to the top in her sport and continues to excel out of the pool as well.
In 2003, she was the top ranked American in the 200m and after earning silver in the 200m backstroke at the 2005 Championships, Hoelzer earned her first Gold in the event at the 2007 world championships. At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Margaret swam in three events, winning two silver medals and a bronze for Team USA.
Margaret enjoys sharing her Olympic spirit and experience with young Olympic Swimmer Hopefuls all around the country through teaching swim clinics andspeaking to local communities. With her graduate degree in psychology with a minor in criminology, Margaret is now working toward a graduate degree insociology at Auburn with hopes of becoming a psychologist and help children who have been abused, or study the criminals who abuse them. She also hopes to start her own foundation for sexual abuse and is working to raise awareness for this cause.
